Fiends of Eden came together as a team of seven game design students in their final year of study at Queensland University of Technology, with Project Patron being the team’s first release title. As a group creating our debut title, our major goal was to create something that we could all collectively enjoy. This pushed us towards the direction of a card game, a genre we each have some personal history with.
However, our own enjoyment wasn’t all we were looking to get out of Project Patron and going into it the group decided early on that another of our primary ambitions would be to put a spin on the regular digital card game genre. This led us to the idea of introducing a game board similar to those found in strategy and tabletop role playing games. Through the use of traditional card game mechanics and the strategic element introduced by the game board we hoped it would provide our players with a gameplay experience they’ve never seen before!
