Hello! Today, I want to start creating a game based on BattleTech, in a new way. Like MechWarrior Living Legends, it will be combined arms, and like MechWarrior Online, it will be using modern technology. But developed by YOU GUYS. I will only lead parts of it. The project will be open source, and will aim to have as many different mechs from many different time periods, as well as short mini campaigns and missions. If you would like to contribute to the project, please apply. At the moment, what I cannot do by myself is art. But any help is appriciated! The game will be non-profit and free, as the license for BattleTech/MechWarrior is currently owned by Piranha Games.

Hello,
AncientXFreako has talked about creating a sort of "Outline" document. Here is where we can discuss what we want to make the game into; Think hard, because these decisions may heavily affect how to game will turn out.

Hi guys, nice to be aboard. I look forward to this project.To start off with I suggest the basic outline cover foundational headings such as:

  • Concept;
  • Character/Asset modeling;
  • World modeling;
  • Asset animation;
  • World/environment animation;
  • Physics/movement rules (for assets, worlds, and weapons, both damage dealt and damage received, as well as many other physics effects)
  • Also, of course game GUI's., and campaign-related programming.Each of these major headings will have a plethora of sub-headings I'm sure. The sub-headings will deal with not only details/sub-files in the game, but also organizing who does what.

I also suggest we all discuss our experience with the inner workings of other games so that we each have an understanding of what the team is capable of and where everyone's individual tastes/preferences may be. This will help bring the team together for a common goal.I think the idea of creating a general battletech game engine where other people in the future (non-team members) can contribute is a nice idea, but obviously when we create this and offer it to the general public it's going to have been influenced by this team. We might want to consider this going forward, with the possibility that the "general public" version of editing may need to be limited to a certain degree. In other words, is this going to be a "Gary's Mod" of battletech, or will it be "Our Mod", where people can add certain things later but it has to stay within certain guidelines?If I left any basic/foundational headings out, please add them. I haven't had much time to brain-storm on this but I plan to create a document for it. All help/suggestions are appreciated.
