You have not played minecraft at all if you can say that minecraft does not have depth. A game doesnt need to be super complex to have a lot of depth too it.
The problem here is what the definition of "depth" is. As far as I know it's a sandbox game. Defining "depth" there is very difficult since the depth is not provided by the game but by the player adding his own "depth" to the game. In fact sandbox games can not have "depth" if one looks at it correctly since the player has to provide all the depth himself using the means provided by the game. It's like saying LEGO has depth. It has none. The depth is created by the child building stuff out of it. By itself it has none.
Drama queens or lack of depth or whatnot, I think the IOTY is Awesome-sauce and its top100!
I'm happy that my game, The Line, made it to the top 100 even though it is almost totally unknown and only has the weakest version released.
I know it will be very hard to compete against the indie tenors for the top 10 but meh, top 100 is already an achievement for us and i'm grateful for that.
To be honest, it is so hard to get the smallest interest or coverage when you're an new unknown indie who's making something different and/or new so we're very grateful for Indiedb, its community and the IOTY.
Great competition + great games = Awesome-sauce!
Awesooooome-sauce!
Not really digging it. Lots of drama queens in there which do not really deserve to be there. Has though also good entries.
You're right about that.
Mine craft is fun and all, but I honestly don't think it has the depth of some of indies that aren't getting much spotlight.

Top 100, another step towards victory.
