Dungeons of Daggerhelm is a top-down RPG-roguelike based on games such as Realm of the Mad God and Diablo, with many differences that sets itself apart from the rest. The game is currently being developed by Rendered World Games.

Two new things added to the game: a GUI launcher and NPCs!

We're breaking into content now that makes our game look more pretty.

What we've added over the last week is a prototype (working) GUI launcher that has multiple options: Play, Options (adding options in later), Help (adding components in later), and Quit. The Play, Options and Quit buttons work on their own merits, except the Help button which currently does nothing. But I digress.

We've also added NPCs to our game. The current prototype of the game includes the Paladin player and a copy of the Ranger player wandering around the spawn level on their own! This opens up a wide variety of elements to add to the game. We've been discussing at length about how exactly we want to be able to interact with these NPCs. We've decided, then, that we were going to add special, 1-on-1 interactivity with the NPCs. You will be able to talk to them, essentially. Not right now, but later.

NPC interactivity will be important to our game because we want players to be able to purchase items and gear from merchants and such. In the works is a system that operates just like real life (well, not really): if your player is close to an NPC, or within a certain proximity, a speech bubble (or box) will pop up over their head with a letter E that signifies action in order to talk to them. Pressing E will open a text box which displays what NPCs are saying and will give you options on what to do.

We want NPCs to be special, so we may give them interesting back stories later on that players can read about: how they came to Daggerhelm, why they are there, and what they plan on doing next!
