A bit about how we handle lighting in Signs of Life.

In Signs of Life we felt that it was important to have somewhat realistic lighting. During the day, the sun provides light, but blocks block light, so caves and things are dark without some kind of lighting. There are many sources of light in Signs of Life, for example, Flashlights:


Dynamic lights like flare guns:


and static lights such as Torches:

Is the Current amount of updates an indication for an alpha release coming soon? :)

I like the lightning but i am also interested in another special thing. What dou you think about making foregrounds?
I can't explain very well but i mean it like in the trailer from this game Treasureadventureworld.com after 38sec you will see what i mean. Also i would like to see building foregrounds, i could imagine that this gives the player a more closed feeling to the houses and bases he builds...

Hmm its a neat idea, but unfortunately due to the procedural nature of Signs of life the foreground stuff could end up covering up something important, so that probably wouldn't work in game with modifiable terrain.
