In this update I rewrote the entire particle system, added some new particle graphics, Added respawn wells, worked on lighting some more for particle effects, Added spell casting animations, Spell pushback, Added frost nova, added skill interface.

Skills Interface

I added a basic interface (that I need to reskin) to add spells to your actionbar, I used the skin from the crafting interface for now until I make one for it and replace it (It kinda functions like a spell book).
I was going to make the Icon's dragable like the inventory but I keep over thinking concepts like this and its really slowing down development, so clicking the button adds the skill to your actionbar and you can drag it from there. Later I will add filters for the skill types since I plan on having tons of abilities.


Frost Nova: (WIP GRAPHIC)

Starting wizard spell that freezes enemies in place for a few seconds doing damage as it expands outwards!

It will freeze enemies for around 5 seconds, they cannot attack or move during that time (Note this will also kill and freeze projectiles making for interesting gameplay with black magic spells)


Spell Pushback

Every time the player is hit for damage there is a 100 ms pushback applied to the cast, so if they player is being rapidly hit they won’t be able to cast spells, eventually higher level of casting levels will lessen this pushback, and this time may not actually be enough for meaningful pushback we will see!

Protection Spell:

Fully implemented this spell, it now reduces incoming damage by 5%, to benefit low level players if the damage done is greater than 1 but the damage reduced is less than 1 it will always round up to take off at least 1 damage.
I also designed a neat little system to check each buff or debuff the player currently has making way for interesting buffs that could make fire spells heal the player, etc.

New Spell casting animations!

Doing some more art and making things more interesting I started work on casting animations for the player character, currently it looks like he is just waving his arms up and down, I may end up replacing it with something more interesting!


Respawn wells:

I added respawn wells to the game now when you die you get your health, mana and stamina refilled and your hunger and thirst set to 75%, I am going to add greater death penalties later.
Clicking on a respawn well will set your respawn location to that point, I plan on having them spawn in towns and outside of dungeons. I may even make them craftable by the player!

I love the new spells. The fire particle looks pretty neat and i love the fact that the spell has a large light radius. That respawn well particle effect is awesome, perhaps if the particles were slowed down, it would retain its awesomeness and make it easier on the eyes [not saying that it is to me, but maybe you or someone else thinks it is hard on the eyes]?

The well particles and light looks better in game, recording to GIF lowers the quality, its not too eye wrenching =p

I put a ton of time into the pseudo dynamic lighting system and I don't have much to show for it still so its nice to put something like this in =)
