Post news Report RSS Level editor is ready

The level editor for 'Super Knight World' is fully functional. Now level creation will be much faster.

Making levels for the game will be much easier, faster and also a lot more sorted out.
Up until now I used a script for the level design. When loading the map, the game would create the level upon the commands given in the map file. That would look like this:

In the beginning I thought it to be a quick way to just put some ground and a tree in the level fastly. Just so I could test some basic features. Of course now, the levels are way more complex. And not only is the script very ungraphical and therefore not as exciting as a level editor. But also, as you can imagine, would it be painful to see through all the dozens of lines to find where your scripted tree is. You could place comments to mark certain objects in the script, but still.

So now I made an editor that is fully capable of setting all objects and entities and showing them. I doubled the space for levels so now I can get the full potential out of the game. Currently I am designing level 3 and I am looking forward to creating more. Here you can catch a glance at the basic editor. "ent4" and "ent1" represent enemy entities.

So with that up and running, the levels will come by quicker and you will be playing more nicely shaped levels soon!

Nice one. I know the feeling when you get to that point where you're like: "I want to keep making features, but what I need most right now is a level editor."

Exactly. Else you come to the point where it is just painful to keep on designing the levels to keep up with the features ^^
