Toward the end of April this year, HTC announced Vive X: The Global VR Accelerator. It’s a program which has set aside $100 million in funding for selected VR startups and developers, in order to grow the VR industry as a whole. Selected startups will gain access to vencture capitalists, mentors, and thought leaders from Valve, Warner Bros, Disney, NVIDIA, AMD, Epic, and other companies in the VR space.

Applicants had to apply through the Vive X website for the chance to be selected. As UploadVR reports, the first 33 companies have been chosen and announced at the Chinajoy 2016 conference. Apparently these 33 startups were selected from a batch of around 1,200 applicants, and they span the gamut from VR game developers, to tools programmers, to installation-based entertainment creators. The full list is available on the Vive X website.

Still on the topic of venture capital, Road To VR brings word that the Virtual Reality Venture Capital Alliance, at which HTC sits at the forefront, has introduced another eight members into its fold – and thereby increased its available funding pool from US$10 billion, to US$12 billion. Alvin W. Graylin, China Regional President of HTC VR, stated:

“As the leader in the VR industry, HTC is committed to supporting a vibrant VR ecosystem. The Vive X Accelerators and the VRVCA are integral parts of our vision for enabling and rewarding true innovation amongst the VR startup community.”
