Post news Report RSS Frostbite 2 or SAGE?

Speculation has gone around due to the complexity of DICE's engine that it may be unmoddable. Depending on what decisions are made over at EA and BioWare Victory, the mod may have to downgrade to SAGE.

Recently, I've read that GEN 2 may be unmoddable due to Frostbite 2. The engine I know is not very mod friendly due to its complexity which is precisely why its under lock and key, only available to those who develop for it. This may be a letdown to other people planning mods for GEN2 since there may not be some form of SDK that's user friendly enough to support the vast power this engine has. Best chances are, GEN2's Frostbite may be based on the exact ones used to run Battlefield 3, only trimmed down to support the RTS genre. A simpler engine that's still quite powerful, and mod friendly would do just right. This is mostly speculation and I have not read any official posts from BioWare Victory or EA themselves on this. I know Battlefield 3 did not support mods whatsoever and that just may ring "lights out" for any GEN2 mods concepted right now. If anybody has any actual information(not speculation) on the compatibility of this engine, please let me now in the comments. As of now I'm considering the switch to SAGE, that just may be for the best.

I'm gonna go for SAGE, it's modable and it has a graphic style that somehow i fell in love with.
Of course frostbite 2 has the destrucability, but that doesn't count against no mods.
I don't believe that there are ever going to be mods for it, knowing the company behind it is paranoid about modders stealing their stuff.

I would really like it if EA sold cnc to valve or another user friendly company, that supports modding, this franchise still has so much pottential that can only be explored with the help of modders.

EA has screwed up C&C in too many ways lately. Trashing base building before and now ruining a fun formula with F2P. So SAGE it is but I also do think highly of EA just selling the franchise off to some other company. Petroglyph is your best bet since they are just the remmenants of Westwood.

Modding mainly has to do with the publisher/devs opening a game for it. You sure as hell can mod both engines but only SAGE games are really open to it, atm.

SAGE is outdated, but the moding community for this engine is one of the biggest.
Frostbite didn't show me any real destruction, in BF 3 you can blow out predefined parts of buildings, and that's it. On the other hand, it is one of the best engines, graphic wise.

Its really up to EA weather or not they decide to allow such. I don't see why not but also considering GEN2 is a F2P title its a downer.
