We are glad to present you the 5th update for Exoplanet: First Contact which introduces one of the important subsystems we were working on in the last few weeks. For the small but dedicated indie-team it is always a challenge how to get great variety of art assets at low production costs and how to avoid the cheap and nasty copy-paste approach at the same time.

We decided that a well-engineered modular building system for houses and facilities will be the best solution for our complex level design tasks. This system allows us to build any possible configuration we can imagine, allows to add new and improve the already existing elements of this "construction set". Even now, on this early stage of the development we want to make sure, that our active community (modders) will get full access and all necessary tools to use games resources, to create and add their own content to the game. So this modular building system will serve well their modding purposes after the release of the MDK.

Moving pictures are worth a thousand words in our digital age. Watch the video to get an impression of the first results. In this set of modules we wanted to create an impression of "western" themed settlement, a spirit of "ghost town", lost in time and space. There will be more different sets for different architectural styles and cultures of the K'Tharsis in the future.

I like the new buildings system! They look much more like easy, prefab colony buildings and less like piles of rusty scrap metal. Perhaps some bandit buildings or something should be rusty scrap hovels, but for most applications I think your new system is best. Also, you definitely achieved a Western-style feel, I think.

Good to hear you feel Western-style with our buildins.
Also we plan create bandits' settlements too. They will be definetly more rusty and damaged then these. =)
