Controller support does exist for this game, but perhaps not in the manner one might expect.

Some games do have inherent controller support, but when it comes to Wings 2 this support is managed via the keybindings menus for different players. It is possible to use xbox-style controllers (tested using a PDP wired controller) to bind actions to buttons on the controller, and play completely off of the controller. This does make splitscreen multiplayer more possible, as up to 4 players can hook up their own controllers to the main computer and run the game in that manner.

Sidenote: I do not own any PlayStation controllers, and am thus incapable if testing their compatibility with Wings . If someone would be willing to test this functionality for me, please comment on this article or contact me.
