Survival of the Fittest is sandbox survival RPG set in stereotypical caveman times with dinosaurs and stuff like that (IE: not realistic).

I discuss with you why I chose the topic of prehistoric times, dinosaurs and cavemen.

Why cavemen and prehistoric times as a topic, you ask? Well, there are a multitude of reasons for that.

1.) Originality – Caveman stories and movies and such may not be particularly new, but in games, and especially RPGs, they are very uncommon. Which is a shame, really, but also an opportunity for people like me. I really want to come off as original and not some clone, and so far, the game really doesn’t.

2.) Simplicity – The caveman life is relatively simple and easy to implement into games while still making it fun and exciting. It isn’t like making a sandbox game set in modern times where there is SO MANY THINGS you can do. Not to say there won’t be anything to do in the game, just that it has almost every part of the caveman life in it somewhere, while other, more complicated settings, are hard to fully vision.

3.) Opportunity for adventure and comedy – Other settings do indeed have lots of opportunity for adventure and comedy, but the caveman life (or, rather, the stereotypical one I am trying to show) does especially. Dinosaur fights are awesome. ‘Nuff said.

4.) Wealth of info on the topics – We know a lot about our prehistoric buddies now, thanks to archaeologists, wiki editors and scientists. This helps my job by making the search for information very quick. Of course, the game is not at all heavily researched and that doesn’t really bother me. I wasn’t trying to make a realistic sim – just a fun game.

5.) Area to grow – Unlike a lot of real life (or mostly real life) topics, the cavemen topic has room to grow, expand and thrive because it is not overflowing with lore or knowledge, which may sound like a contradiction to my fourth point, and it sort of is, but in a good way.

Either way, I am very confident this topic will make a great game, and so far it seems to be working alright.
