Cardinal Quest is an arcade-style dungeon-crawler inspired by 1980s classics such as Gauntlet, Red-Box D&D and Golden Axe: Choose your champion and begin your quest to slay the Evil Minotaur!

Post news Report RSS Adobe Air Issues on Linux

The solution to Air+Linux issues is here! If the Desura client asked you to install air to play Cardinal Quest, using Air 2.6 runs it just fine.

Posted by on

If you are on Linux the desura client might ask you to install Air manually to play Cardinal Quest.

The game works fine with Air 2.6, which you can get here:
Kb2.adobe.com

Despite rumors to the contrary, Air games run on linux just fine, but unfortunately Adobe doesn't do a very good job of advertising where to get it!

If you are having any more issues do not hesitate to contact me.

Have fun,
-Ido.

Umm the game does _not_ work fine after installing Adobe AIR manually and using the latest update of the game through Desura. I'm running Linux Mint 64-bit.

I've emailed desura about the solution I gave you yesterday, just have to wait for them to change it.

Reposted from the forums: I really want to believe in Cardinal Quest and give it a chance, but the truth of the matter is that even after installing Adobe AIR manually, and the latest update of Cardinal Quest, the game does not work at all for me. The error I get is "This installation of this application is damaged. Try re-installing or contacting the publisher for assistance." I'm not saying not to buy the game, suggesting that the developers aren't putting enough effort into compatibility, or even blaming them, but the truth of the matter is that the game does not work, and I'd hold off on buying it until it's fixed.

It isn't working on a fresh Ubuntu 11.10 32bit either. I installed Ubuntu, then Desura, then AIR and then CQ. It says "The installation of this application is damaged".

Doesn't work on Ubuntu 10.10 :(

Tried with the manual install of AIR 2.6 and the one in the repo. No luck.

I contacted the developer, and he [Ido] sent me a working version. The version on Desura is broken. Hopefully this will be fixed soon.

Air 2.6 is the last Linux version that Adobe is going to release. So you don't need a package manager to manage it. Just go to these URLs and download the .bin installer and call it a day. It works perfect on every system and it gets installed exactly the way Adobe wants. Just make sure you run the installer as root via sudo.

I should mention that there is no 64-Bit version of Adobe Air so you need the i386 compatible libraries installed if your are 64-Bit.

That .bin only works on rpm and debian based systems. I use Archlinux, and while I was able to install Air from the AUR (https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?O=0&K=adobe-air&do_Search=Go), I was unable get the game to run (It complained that Air was not installed).

Ok, I got It working. After installing Air, I needed to download the game from the website, unzip it , and run CardinalQuest.air with Air. What the Desura client downloads doesn't work.
