Taking back the original game concept, as developers intended it to be.
This mod is created by Jourgensen (with a little help of Dexiaz, i.e. me). I have a permission to upload it here.
About the mod:
The main part of the Betrayer's gameplay is built on exploring the inner world of the game. But, for some strange reason, developers added a few things to the game, which destroys the original core mechanic and makes gameplay pointless. The mod returns the original game concept, which leads the playthrough to be more interesting.
Changes:
• All markers on the map have been removed, except the player's marker and the fast travel points. This forces the player to actively use the special ability of the main hero, instead of constantly using the map. Sometimes it even disrupted the gameplay, because the player could come to a place where a ghost or shadow had not yet appeared in the plot. Does this somehow affect the game balance? No. Shadows, ghosts, totems and clues can be freely searched using the ability of "special hearing". Plus, the chests, buried treasures, graves and notes make a distinctive sound by which they can be found.
• Skeletons no longer make growling sounds. Now they only rattle their bones when they move. This adds to the horror feeling, since it has become much more difficult to hear them, but makes more sense (how the hell can skeletons breathe?!)
• Some sounds have been replaced to improve the sound design quality.
How to install:
Copy the contents of the archive to the game's root folder with subsequent replacement.
(Example: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Betrayer")
Tested on the Steam release.
Very nice, I had no idea this is how the game was meant to play!
Thank you!
Is it compatible with the GOG version?
We didn't tested it, but it must work pretty much fine. The game files are the same.
