Just in time for Christmas, and ready to be stuffed in your virtual stockings, Alien Arena 2011 has been officially completed - the release of this new version will occur in approxiamately one week! We had originally planned on releasing a week ago, but decided that getting some new features that were very close to working, finished, was worth delaying. The amount of work done on this version exceeds any of our previous releases, and it will be readily apparent the minute you begin combat in the first new map, Dm-Annihilation. You've seen the pictures and video of some of the new maps, but we decided to sneak in a special surprise - we revamped Dm-Babel, a hellish map that was inspired by the classic UT map Inferno. Not only did it receive a visual upgrade, but some layout additions as well, making it one of the fastest, most enjoyable maps in the game.
For those that have not yet seen the other new maps, here are some shots to warm you up...
Dm-Annihilation(post apocalyptic city):
Dm-Neptune(undersea relic):
Another feature that we have worked on is the addition of True Type font support, so you can truly customize the look of the GUI. In this release, this support is limited to the game messages and console(you can use different fonts for each), but we are in the process of rewriting the entire menu system from scratch, and that is expected to be completed some time this winter.
Other key features are the new ragdoll physics, the implementation of AutoTools, a heavily revamped IRC client, as well as some gameplay tweaks, and a host of server and client bugfixes/updates that greatly smooth out the user experience.
Awesome.
Bet it's better than the original by like, a million.
Awesome!
Never played this game before but it looks pretty awesome.
Trust me this game rocks! We recently had a decent sized lan here with about 300 people. So we showed them Alien Arena and soon almost everyone was playing it for a whole weekend.
Sauerbraten beats it by far, though, imho:P
I will still be giving the new version a go! :D
Great work, guise!
