Uplink: Deep Blue offers a moderately polished interface (true to the classic original), an enhanced and expanded gateway selection, additional company and personal names, and an extended soundtrack with hours of mod music.
INTRODUCTION
Uplink: Deep Blue is a fan made noncommercial modification for the hacker game "Uplink" (2001, Introversion Software) aimed at giving players a game enhancement true to Uplink's unique original style.
The mod offers a moderately polished classic interface, an enhanced and expanded selection of gateways, added variety of company and personal names, and an extended soundtrack with hours of mod music.
I hope the result can provide some extra fun for those diehard Uplink fans still playing this wonderful and timeless classic.
Thanks for reading this. Enjoy the Uplink: Deep Blue mod!

Is this a reupload? If not, what led you to make an uplink mod in this, the year of our lord 2020?
LOL. No, this is not a reupload, it is a brand new mod for good old Uplink. Been playing the game recently, and remembered that I had started work on this mod many years ago. Uplink is an absolutely brilliant and timeless classic, and since I kept returning to it time and time again, I figured the mod deserved to be finished and published. Hope you enjoy.
Doesn't seem to work for steam. Debug log stops at "Creating main menu"
Tried reinstalling the game couple of times but no success. Works fine unmodded.
Sorry, I can currently only test on Mac. Working fine here. Try moving folders out, e.g. music, sounds, fonts etc. to try and isolate the issue.
Ok i tried isolating it. Music folder makes game crash before it even loads.
Lans couse crash after 10 sec from starting the game.
Rest seems fine. only thing that is consistent through logs is:
An Uplink strncpy Failure has occured
=====================================
Location : .\world\generator\namegenerator.cpp, line 312
Dest. size : 9
Source size : 9
Str. Source : banking (sometimes shrugged or modulate)
Thanks for your efforts. Music is odd, as libmikmod plays it just fine on Mac/Linux, thought that was part go the Win version too. Maybe it's a file size issue on Win? The LANs are weird, as well. Maybe there are just too many? Anyhow, glad the rest works ok. Will have a look into this when I find the time. A little busy atm.
Fixed in v2.0.0 (among other issues). Should work fine on Windows now (I hope).
Finally fixed (v2.0.1), tested on Uplink PC v1.55.
Finally fixed (v2.0.1), tested on Uplink PC v1.55.
Besides LANs and the music folder causing errors, I also see this in the debug.txt after a crash. After removing the music and LANs, of course.

Hey Apex, i also had the game crash, but i managed to get it working by deleting some files from the mod folder.
This took me a couple hours to troubleshoot.
I made new agents after every time i deleted a file, just to be safe.
I deleted
data/gatewaydefs_v2
data/wordlist
music folder
The LANs folder didn't seem to cause any issues
I tried this method on both the GOG 1.6 version and the retail cd 1.55 version, and so far so good.
I am on Windows 10, not on Mac, so my guess is there's an issue on Windows with these files that doesn't happen on Mac. I've never used Mac though, just guesswork. I just hopes that this helps isolate the issue

the issue from what ik is the bluevalley.uni file. it takes up the majority of space in this mod
Yep, for a variety of technical reasons I needed to cram the entire soundtrack (33 tracks, about 3 hours total) into one (uncompressed) audio file.
That music issue on Uplink for Windows is finally fixed (v2.0.1), tested on Uplink PC v1.55.
