In a part of the world where you can experience all four seasons in a single hour, an idea has been brewing.
An idea about games. An idea about stories. An idea called the Mental Universe.
But what is the Mental Universe? Where did it come from? And more importantly, are there cookies?
Mental Universe? What’s that?
Officially,
Mental Universe is an award-winning game development studio based in the land of haggis and Irn-Bru, or to be more precise, Glasgow, Scotland.
Our aim is to create fun, vibrant, and exciting games. In particular, we want to create story-based games with a shared narrative, combining our passion for visual flair and storytelling with compelling gameplay.
In other words we love making games and telling stories, and want to bring the two together. Although our games will span different genres, with varied art styles and mechanics, they will all take place within the same narrative universe, and tell a singular story. We even have plans to extend the story via other mediums, such as comics and animations.
“But what story are you wanting to tell?” I hear you cry. You’ll just have to play the games to find out!
What else do I need to know?
The Mental Universe has been around since December 2012, but things have really started hotting in recent months. We’re currently based in the Glasgow Entrepreneurial Spark Hatchery, a space for start-ups and new businesses.
Over the next few weeks we’ll be posting a series of “Meet the Team” blog posts, where you will be able to find out a little bit more about Team Mental and our origins. If you have any questions for the team don’t be afraid to contact us and send them in!
What’s next?
We’re currently hard at work on getting our first titles out the door and into the hands of players. Our main focus is on Lucid Runner, an endless runner which features a story told through a stunning comic, but we’ve also got a few other games in the pipeline. Make sure you keep an eye on our games page for the latest information about our released and upcoming titles.
We’ll also be writing more blog posts for you to enjoy. These will be a mixture of behind-the-scenes insights, news and announcements, and perhaps even some pictures of unicorns.
