Hi IndieDB! I'm the main developer on an Oculus Rift project that I'm recruiting an artist for. We've been building our game for about 10 weeks hoping to launch Q1 2016. Please take a look at our promo material here if you've got an interest in VR: Foreignvr.com

ForeignVR Minigame FAQ

Q. How long have you been working on the game?
A. We got the Oculus in late April and began experimenting around that time. We started working on the minigame project by mid August. That puts dev time to date around 8-9 weeks. We put in many hours to development as well as concepting, we’ve already scrapped games that weren’t fun. We want to make a game we’ll be proud of.

Q. What type of art are we looking for?
A. We’re looking for an artist with a vision for art direction. Current assets are low poly un-stylized worlds and are on the plain/boring side. We’re going to be very open to suggestion from our artist. I’d like to see the “Frogger” level be a star-warsian desert planet style environment with Nausica of the Wind Valley slug creeps instead of cars, just to give you a sense of how flexible we are.

Q. What kind of engine are we using?
A. Unity 5.x, the latest VR compatible Unity version from now until release.

Q. Is this paid? Part time? Full time? Revenue Share?
A. This is Revenue share. We want to find someone who will be investing their time in our product and expecting a return in the form of split revenue. Specific % tbd.

Q. What’s the budget like?
A. We’ve spent about $200 total after buying the Rift. Mostly on random Asset store stuff. This should answer any questions about the budget.

Q. How big is the team?
A. Currently 2 main contributors. 3 people who are contributing code, audio, research. We expect you to be one of the main contributors/owners of the project.

Q. How many minigames? Is at an overarching story like Mario Party?
A. Currently we’re playtesting with 4 games. We anticipate 5-7 by launch. We have an arcade mode where a score is kept much like the Fuzion Frenzy “Tournament, to reinforce competition and turn taking.

Q. How much work am I going to have to do?
A. That’s up to you. You’ll be buying into the project with us, so we’ll rely on your sense for the art completion. We’ll be supporting you however we can.

Q. Timeline?
A. Q1 2016. With whatever’s ready. Not looking at a moving goalpost.

Q. How much $$ will I get?
A. Every game is unique, it’s a hit or miss business. We got our expectations from indie game sales, which range from the low thousands to hundreds of thousands. Personally I'll be unsatisfied if the game earns less than $10,000.
