Deus Ex Machina in an exploration into a fan remake and modernisation of the original in Unity, redesigning systems and game mechanics to conform to modern iterations of the franchise and the genre as a whole. Not designed to be an exact remake of the original but instead and evolution of it with the intention being at this early stage to produce a reimagined Liberty Island as a portfolio piece.
Liberty Island in DX was designed in a way that was a caricaturistic reference of reality. It is done this way because the level is designed around the game mechanics, to ensure the experience is enjoyable.
While the island featured in DX was one interpretation, I feel that there's other ways to create the level that more closely resembles the real island, but also allows for the accommodation of the game mechanics to keep things fun.
The advantage of a revision of the earlier level design is that things change over time in reality, in the case of Liberty Island, a museum is currently being built and will become the new UNATCO foyer instead of the Admin Building of the original.
This is the reality of what liberty island is now and so the level design of liberty island must change because of it.
