I would too. Money come and go but a trophy will always be there to admire and remember throughout your life.

I hope trophy doesn't win because imo that's something they should just give out anyways along with the other prize.

I can't vote, it bounces me back.
Thus - Help with 'game publishing', even if it is just a 10 minute one on one talk with a credible publisher.

If the game has won IOTY, then it would be in any rational publisher's interest to take more than 10 minutes discussing possibilities. A 'Game Publishing' prize would definitely benefit both parties concerned.

Perhaps it depends on what I understood Game Publishing to mean.
I thought it means: Game won, someone will publish it to Xbox, PS4, Wii, Androit etc.

But I think this need to be to two way street. The proverbial ten minutes are find out if the price is in our best interest.
Do we want our game to be published through them?
If not (I know one publisher I will never to business with), ten minutes is enough, to explain to them politely, that it's our game, and they can publish it only for PC.
If yes, are they interested in our other projects, where do they see them in five years, can we build a long term relationship, oops tem minutes are up, when shall we meet again.

Trophy is also very nice but I voted for Game Publishing, simply because most indies can use all the help and support in that regard.

I vote for Engine Licence. There are great game developers out there who simply don't manage to get enough money together to get the engine that would be perfect for their game. That is frustrating, and the developers can't make the "perfect" game they aimed for. So: Engine Licence :)

Even though I have to agree that engine licenses are quite a good prize, I think that money would be better, the devs might have the engines already and need money for something else instead, I feel like giving them freedom of choiche is just better than stucking them with an engine license they might not even need.

Tough between engine license or publishing, but I went with publishing.

Hopefully because publishing will lead to more exposure, which leads to more money, which gets you engine licenses.

Given that engines like GM and Unity have free versions, I think most people can make their dream game without spending a fortune on engine licenses, it's more for things like publishing to other platforms (Android and iOS for example) that the engine licenses get you.

Engine Licences would be awesome i think, since with that license you can make a better game (And the money of course) so, Win win :p

Money comes and goes, Engine Licenses expire, Hardware get's outdated, Art software not really useful unless you are an artist of course. Game publishing not really useful if your game achieve it's fame. So a trophy is better to have and remember the "glory days" imo

Physical Trophy - Nah...
Hardware - Depends.
Art Software - Nah...
Game Publishing - **** that! We can achieve that through many other means, and if this prize method involves the AAA publishers, forget it. Their publishing terms usually suck, sometimes they will try to compromise your IP just for them to publish and promote your game. They've finally realized that they were digging their own graves when indie games and funding websites like Kickstarter and IndieGoGo began their existence and now they are actually panicking.

I am struggling to choose between "Money" and "Engine Licenses", because I am kind of in desperate need of both right now but some cases, I may not need the license and only need the money to hire voice actors, music composers, and maybe artists and programmers.

Well usually if one wins something like this it can be assumed that they either already finished the game or already have all the licenses to all the software that they might need. Therefore that kind of only leaves 3 likely options...

Also as I pointed out on the ModDB version of this I think it should be up to the winning team to chose what they want. Again as I pointed out on the ModDB version a trophy would be something that could be admired and remind the person of their achievement. Hardware on the other hand could be gotten thanks to sponsors and could end up being much more valuable than a pure cash prize. Point is I don't understand the people that are voting for money!!

Basically most of the options don't really make sense but the option that completely doesn't make sense is game publishing. Since if one wins IOTY then they have enough fans to easily stay indie and publish it themselves through something like Steam...

'Game publishing' should never, ever be a prize - it implies that the publishing is completely a favor being done, and puts the gamedev on the back foot in negotiations.

Money can really help out an Indie game.

I've gone for Money, simply because it is the only thing on the list that cannot be replaced when helping an Indie out. And being an Indie usually means you DO need help.
Software, engines, hardware... you can find good cheap/free alternatives to those you can work with. Winning IOTY should be enough of a boost already to Game Publishing.
A Phyisical Trophy would be an awesome thing to have around the office; but you won't fund your game into completion with it. A USD 1 diploma you can frame should suffice.
