Now to the bulk of the post

I've been asked a lot about exactly what Arakion is. For the longest time I thought this was kind of self explanatory since I had grown up with Might and Magic, Wizardry, etc... Of course this isn't the case and I was dumb to think it was, because a lot of people have never played or even heard of those games.

So what exactly is Arakion?

Arakion is a unique take on group based RPGs where you are put in control three heroes trying to survive and save a world devastated by war. The entire game is done in first person view and and you have to utilize each hero if you want to survive the enemies you'll encounter. This requires not only strategy but also quick thinking, about how one hero can help the other to survive or do a combination attack to take down a larger than life foe.

As you play through the world you'll get lost in mazes, trapped in dungeons and roam through vast open areas all the while encountering fearsome foes and helpful allies. The world will be split between open ended adventuring and linear quest lines. You'll be given a main quest at the start of the game and how you choose get to the end point is up to you. Of course if you have a fresh set of virgin heroes and they get to our ogre friend in the preview without any customization, chances are good they'll wind up splatters on the ground.

The game itself is a grid movement system (see Grimrock), and you'll have a variety of character classes and races to pick from when creating your heroes at the start of the game. I have tried to split Arakion up as much as possible between combat, town building, puzzles, and exploration (as well as some mini-games on the side).

So where does it take place what's the story?

The land of Arakion consists of two continents, the West and the East. The West continent is very busy and populated by a lot of friendly races, but our story takes place on the East continent. The East continent was the home of the Fae before they were destroyed by the Humans, now all that remains are ruins and creatures the Fae warped into monsters. It's on this continent that an ancient evil has awoken to destroy all of Arakion.

Our heroes have been "reborn" to fight back, since no one in the West is even aware of the threat. They have to use what little resources they can muster and help they can find to mount an offensive against this unknown evil before it's to late and everything is consumed by war once again.

What are the races and classes?
Races: Human, Satyr, Tree Ent, Torti
Classes: (Definite) Monk, Warrior, Alchemist :: (In the Air) Mage, Thief, Ranger

When is the ETA on the release?
I'll get in to this in the next few weeks.

Can I join or help out in any way?
Feel free to send me a private message if you'd like to help out, at the moment I haven't taken on anyone to help out but that doesn't mean that I won't. I'll get back to you as soon as I can with a response.

Important stuff in-case you missed it

  • Character Customization in Arakion is a refreshing take on the RPG Level-Up formula. Instead of skills and stats after X experience, your choices throughout the game affect your heroes, from the weapons they choose to forge to the add-ons they choose for their house every decision has an impact on your heroes.
  • Each character only starts with one weapon, one set of armor and four skills. It remains that way the entire game. You'll use the materials you find in the world to shape and morph your characters into the heroes they'll become. Each decision you make has a permanent and lasting impact on your hero that resonates in the way they play and interact with the world.
  • Using blueprints you find, the people you save and with the help of a mysterious stranger, you'll use ancient devices to rebuild a lost town. You'll have to choose wisely however, as some building decisions permanently prevent other choices.
  • Using a unique blend of real-time as well as turn-based gameplay, combat in Arakion takes two old school styles of gameplay and merges them into one seamless combat experience.
  • You'll adventure through dozens of dungeons, castles and open world areas while finding hidden passageways, collecting materials and crushing your foes.

Feel free to ask any questions or comment on anything you see, or if you have suggestions write em out! I read every comment and try to respond to as many as I can. For those of you that got through this wall of text, thanks for taking the time to read it and taking the time to view my post, I appreciate it.

Yes, it is going to be similar, although not exactly the same. I've taken a lot of stuff from the might and magic series and injected it into this game.
