Another update post =D
But before that, I want to mention that the last post already covered phase 3 and phase 3 will only have 1 extra feature, that is the field effect instead of previous phases where the boss receive multiple upgrades.
The reason for that is this:
1. I am getting sick of this boss by now =P (Just Kidding! well kinda XD)
2. The new field effect already does it's job of adding more immersion/excitement to the game. I feel that adding any more will clutter the fight/screen.
3. The boss already have a great variety of abilities. So I don't think adding anymore will benefit as there will be too many abilities for the players to memorise and the random boss AI already have a hard time picking it's ability in a good pattern (I mean, sometime, he refuse to use certain attacks already).
Having said that, what kind of a fire boss is he, if he doesn't have a Meteor Storm Ability!!!
Phase 4 is actually Phase 3 part 2. Originally this Meteor Storm Ability meant to come as field effect along with phase 3. However, It doesn't make sense that a spell circle on the ground and meteor storm come out. So I decided to split it into part 2.
However, when I was testing, I found that Phase 1 was abit too long and a bit too boring. Originally, My plan for this boss is to have 4 phases at 25% hp each. After this test, I decided to split into 5 phases instead. So now, we have weak boss -> fire powerup -> ground effect -> air effect -> ??? =P
Now to explain phase 4. Phase 4 is trigger when the boss is at a low 40% hp. He will uses his special Mega Cannon Attack, but this time, he aim up in the air!! wut! With that he blast through the atmosphere, heating and condensing air particles to form fiery crystals to rain down hell on Sonya! How does this work? I have no idea, that's why we call it Magic =D (I feel like I am gonna get flame by those that live in the realm of physics, So ignore what I said above, and think of it as he summon Meteor Shower through the Magic Circle he incarnated.)
One more thing regarding this Meteor Storm, originally there is suppose to have more meteors raining down. However, I reach an issue where, after I added sound effects. The raining meteor sounds like a Gatling gun being fired. So I end up reducing them, also add a variety of impact sound, 5 in total). Hope this make it less annoying, to be honest, I don't think it sound too good. But I really want to meteor shower attack! =D
Now that Phase 4 is done, all that left is phase 5, the Last-o Phase =P. What I expect is that most players, especially first time players will die in phase 3 or 4. The story will continue even after you die, this is meant to be those very boss at the beginning. However, If player do reach phase 5 with is at 20% hp, I want to make something special for them =P.
Having said that, I won't be doing a video demo for phase 5, that's a secret that you have to play to find out! =P (I might post tease screenshots thought, might not be able to resist..might.. XD) Also wonder if there's anyone who will be able to beat the boss. Will reward players a trophy if they beat him which might be useful later on in the game =P Probably won't be in this very first demo thought.
What this mean is that, I am planning to release the demo game where you get to fight this boss as Version 0.0.1 of the game! Est will be after I finished phase 5 and added all the other etcs such a patch system so that I can provide updates (wouldn't want you to download the full game every time I added/fixed something especially later on when the game gets big.).
