Turnover has been updated on Steam with bug fixes, controller improvements, and more.

Posted by on

I pushed a new update to Turnover, which brings a number of all around improvements. You can check out the full list of changes here. I played through Turnover again with a new controller, so there are a couple of controller-centric improvements.

Better Analog Stick Aiming

Turnover now uses the analog values of axis sticks for controller aiming. Frankly, I think it is silly that I didn’t implement this much earlier.

Here’s an example:

Old/New aiming, controller selection

The old analog aiming just used one speed values when holding aim and moving the stick around. So, no matter how far you moved the stick, it moved at one speed.

Old/New aiming, controller selection

The new analog aiming now uses the stick range values for aiming, resulting in finer touch. This should make throwing accuracy much, much higher.

Selectable Controllers

Now, if you have multiple controllers plugged into your PC, you can select which one you would like to use in the Options menu.

Other Notable Fixes

  • Security Cameras will now throw an alert if they spot/unspot Clea/workers a number of times within a short period of time. It’s a little more realistic and prevents the player from peaking out from hiding too many times without making a move.
  • A few levels have been slightly rebalanced to keep a more consistent difficulty ramp in the later levels. A few sections are now a little easier.
  • I added some music between finishing a level and transitioning to another. There was a little too much silence there. It’s a nice touch.
  • You’ll hear a “denial” feedback sound when trying to pickup an object of the same type. I still caught myself trying to pick up a water bottle when I already had one, so a little audio feedback makes sense.
  • I fixed a lot of little issues. The taskbar icon should now show correctly in Linux, I fixed a tiny memory leak, fixed some missing sprites in some levels, etc.

As always, if you are having issues with Turnover, you can head on over to the Discussion forum and let me know!

Linux Support

In the interest of full disclosure, I have changed the Linux requirements for Turnover on the Steam page. As of this next update, Ubuntu 14.04 64-bit is the only supported Linux distribution for Turnover. All other distros are unsupported.

In the past, I had worked hard to ensure that Turnover worked in number of distros, including Ubuntu 16, Solus, Arch Linux, and SteamOS. With every new Steam client update, something breaks on one or more of these distros. I can no longer keep up with ensuring Turnover will run flawlessly on all of these anymore. I simply do not have the resources to do so.

So, if you want to ensure that you can play Turnover on Linux, you will need to run Ubuntu 14.04 64-bit.
