EDIT:- Now Added Part 2 Of my Tools Round up. Which can be found under 'Features' or this link
Sorry about no article or news last week, I did post one but had problems uploading it to my front page so it can now be found under ‘Features' (A Bad workman always blames his tools....part 1) which is where most of my new articles will go I think. Hopefully you will find them interesting as I try and document to some degree my efforts as a non-programmer to create a pretty ambitious game.
The article I tried to put up is the first part of a two part summary of the tools im using to create Battle of The Atlantic. The second part ill try and get finished in the next few days.
Progress this Week
· Converting the UI to a new system - This week ive been Converting my old Unity UI to a new system, which has had afew teething problems but im now on top of it. Which system the new one is will be discussed in Part 2 of my featured article.
· Revisiting the plot course system - Since its one of the most important aspects of my game ive spent many hours mulling over the plot course system for moving Units, Taskforces and convoys around the map. One issue I had was some strange slow-down every time a unit reached a waypoint but discovered that this is the Unity editor causing it rather than my inability to code, because as soon as I made a test build of the project everything ran smoothly. Though the plot course system is well on its way it does have some kinks and bugs to iron out. Again mainly relating to the UI and combinations of button press....You know, like ‘If I have a ship selected while plot course is active, what happens if I click on another ship'....well it brakes the game basically. So I need to iron out issues like that. Apart from that the very basic system is now in place and working with the new UI. Still manys hours of work to be done with it though.
· How to Store Unit/Port/Weapon Details - Ive Been in discussions with another Unity User about how to go about the ‘database'. I say database but its not really, basically how best to store the game details of hundreds of ships/ports and weapons....this is in its very very early stages.
Thanks for following.
