**DEV COMMENT: IT IS STRONGLY RECOMMENDED THAT YOU PLAY THROUGH THE GAME MULTIPLE TIMES TO SEE EVERYTHING!! You won't see all the scares unless you play through a few times, most likely**
Beware of a bug that just came to my attention: "Marks" will currently block your path. Be careful when placing them for now, I'll release a quick update this week to fix this issue.
Hey everyone. Those of you who follow Rebirth on my official website know that I decided to enter into the Asylum Game Jam at the very last minute. As a result of me entering the jam, I ended up creating a game I now call The Unknown (this game).
The Unknown is a procedurally generated horror game made by a one-man team. Each playthrough is different and is only limited by the amount of content I could make in 48 hours, so I encourage you to play through it a few times to really see everything and get the full effect. It’s meant to be very replayable. Due to the nature of the game, sometimes you’ll get an easier playthrough than others.
Sound, replayability, gameplay, atmosphere.
The game is an exploration of the feeling of panic and hopelessness that comes from being lost, both mentally and physically. You must find a way to escape the labyrinthine depths of whatever hellish place you’re in, but be careful… Fear is your worst enemy. What I wished I could have finished
Had I had more time, new rooms, corridors, events, and enemies could have been added. Another feature I wanted to add but had no time was random events that occurred while backtracking, but alas, time ran out. The procedural generation is also slow, which I wish to improve upon. Also there are some bad bugs. See below.
Sometimes, if you get unlucky, the generator may generate a maze that does not contain all the collectibles you need to “win”. Sorry, your best bet is to re-run the game again and try it one more time. This is one bug I really wish I’d had time to squash, I may fix this one later.
It's meant to be a creepy game full of scares for all kinds of people so you really should check it out. After all, it's free right now, so why not?!
PS: Let's Players and YouTubers - You are free (and encouraged!) to make any videos you'd like of the game. I'd really love to see how people respond to the game!
