Post news Report RSS The Architect - details

The game's page misses some details, both on technical side, both gameplay - player experience side.

I'm working on The Architect for more than a year now - bit late with showing off my work, but it's here, take a look to the insides.
(More than a year that is, because I made it in my spare time, with 3 month pause..., prototyping other ideas meantime...)

Starting with gameplay:
From the first video I posted, I think it wasn't wasn't clear what the player should do. For every level there are three possibilities:

  1. get from the start portal to the end portal
  2. get all power-ups
  3. time challenge: the previous two, but timed.

More details for the gameplay will come in the next video, with my commentary. The story & level design is in progress, I'll have it completed soon as possible, aiming for 4-6 hours of play time.

Once the game is launched, the level designer will be enabled. There will be possibility to design custom levels for challenges, share them with friends, make competitions...

On the technical side, I'm still experiencing the possibilities of level design myself. These levels will go into challenge mode - this way expanding the play time.
The game has integrated level designer, so designing a level takes fairly short time (10-120 mins) for now - depending on the idea.
At the moment the game's code isn't fully optimized yet. Working alone requires visual feedback rather than implementing a feature for weeks long without seeing it working, at least for me.
Before launching a demo, I would like to optimize the game. I have 4 year old laptop with Intel Graphics, but may happen that it won't run the game well because I have lots of transparency. Lots of draw calls are another bottleneck on low-end video cards.

I'm not sure, which is the best way: launch a beta with lower price and raise the price, as more content is added, or, launch a free beta demo soon (updated until the release version is ready), and the full game when the time comes.

I'm open to any suggestions related to The Architect, gameplay, features, launch type. What would you like to see & get?

Probably an open beta would reveal some bugs, and would help You deliver a better product!

There was a closed beta last week, between 3-6th November, 21 issues came in. You're right, beta testing reveals bugs, gameplay issues...and helps steering the game's development towards what the potential players would like to see from this game.
I'll announce the new beta here too next time.
