If you buyed it on Desura you can get your Steam key by visiting the following side (you need to be logged in):
This page will show you all your games you own on Desura. Hover over Synthetic World. A button with the name "Your Keys" will appear. Click on it and grab your Steam key!!!

General Steam Info
The Steam version is identical with the Desura version. I like to be independent as much as possible. So I didn't included any Steam related stuff in my code. That doesn't mean that I will not integrate Steam similar functions like achievements. But these won't be based on a specific platform.
Glad to see this is finally on Steam! :D
