Post news Report RSS Son of Nor Dev Diary #24 - Real Life Dev Jam

Our team from all over the world meets in Austria to take part in a 2 week dev jam! And we have a new character to show off.

Posted by on

The next 2 weeks are going to be special. Adrian (US), Ricardo (Ecuador) and Chris (Switzerland) came to Austria, more specifically to Julian's place in Innsbruck to talk about next steps, project planning and intensively work on Son of Nor together in one room.

What's there to see in the game?

  • A new 3D artist from Germany joined our team. Ruben has a lot of experience in making things look awesome and he's working on a new version of the player character. Apart from that he's got some environment tasks on his todo list.
  • We're also testing new animations Ruben added after rigging and weight painting the character.
  • After getting to know each other for the first time in real life, we installed a motion capture system in Julian's appartment. We're playing around with it to see if it could help us adding more animations faster.

This game is getting better and better. I think what would be really cool though is if there was an online pvp arena styled match where people would be forced to use rocks, fire, terrain and other stuff to kill their opponents.

I liked the previous one for some reason, it maybe had more mystery to it.

If you put some guy in the middle of a desert with telekinetic powers and he looks like he has nothing to hide, you need something to explain the setting. But if the character is mysterious, then the player can more easily accept that the story will slowly unravel and the answers will be found little by little.

To make the idea simpler, think of it this way: if he was wearing a black suit he would look very goofy it would be hard to take seriously. But if he was a masked and hooded guy with a cape one would respect him instead and want to learn more about his history. The difference you have between the 2 models is obviously not as big.

Yeah, it was really weird meeting the guys in real life for the first time. We knew each other for so long, but never shaked hands. But we're having a lot of fun :)
