The next update in our upcoming title Slave RPG is out now and features plenty of new additions and changes to the world map.
- added in the new inspect mode
- added all inspectable area points to the world map
- added in all other mini-bosses to the game
- reworked the way that safety areas work on the world map
- added effects to the in-game seasons
- cleaned up the player UI
- started adding in the district farm
Something we have wanted to add for a while is the ability to allow the player to attempt to inspect any point on the world map. We really liked that ability in the original Fallout games, and wanted our own kind of version of it. Now you can inspect any area that is not within an established "safe zone", or "danger zone" on the world map, and get one of a few different messages/explorable areas from it. As of right now it is a little bare-bones, but hopefully we can expand upon it a little bit further.
World Map Areas
While not all explorable areas have been added to the game yet, since we want some of these areas to be dungeons for the player to explore, we have officially finished adding in different points on the world map and playing around with what exactly the player can visit.
A couple of updates ago began adding in mini-bosses and with this latest update we have finished the mini-boss system for the game. Now there are a total of 5 mini-bosses in the world map, and they are now randomized at the start of every new game. So while it is possible to encounter all 5 in a single playthrough, it will more than likely take a few attempts to find them all. This being said, at least 2 mini-bosses are programmed to spawn in every new game.
The way the game handled "safe zones" before this update was basically just a square radius around most places on the world map and while in these safe zones, the player did not have to worry about random encounters. While the safe zones still keep the player safe, they now are actively visible, are rounded, and scale based on the player's actions. If the player kills off so many NPCs in a town, that towns safety zone will shrink, however if a player defeats a mini-boss that safety zone will increase. We also added the ability to see the names of discovered areas on the world map when hovering the cursor over the different places.
A few smaller additions to this update include: adding in weather effects to different seasons (winter now has snow instead of rain, and summer has generally more sunny days), cleaning up the player UI at the bottom center of the screen (a little less clustered now, and all status icons for the world info/player/companion/and enemies are all at the bottom right hand of the screen), adding in the district farm (one of the final places we added to the game, this now includes cattle that move across the world map, and in the future this farm will be a place to make money), and finally some basic tutorial messages for the player that can be disabled via a new player option.
We are only a few more updates away from the final public release of the game, and we would like to thank everyone for the support so far. We wish you guys and gals all the best, and have a great day!
