Microsoft gave hungry skateboarding fans another look at Session during the Xbox E3 Press Conference today, revealing a slightly more in-depth look at the world that Montreal-based developer creā-ture Studios has fleshed out for fans of the sport. Featuring a few close up grinds, an overgrown skate park based in New York City, and one gnarly wipe out, Session looks to fill the void brought by the absence of the Skate and Tony Hawk’s Pro Skaterfranchises.
Many fans had speculated that Skate 4 would be revealed by Electronic Arts, with the company fueling the rumor mill fire by re-activating the Skate 3servers ahead of E3 2018. Unfortunately for fans of the franchise, EA’s conference came and went without any mention of the oft-requested title – and creā-ture Studios will be hoping those hungry Skate fans will jump to Session instead. In fact, the game’s artistic director (Marc-Andre Houde) told Game Rant earlier that the game was specifically targeting the hungry Skate audience.
Players in Session will be able to watch their avatars get better at tricks after repeated attempts, and the game will feature a video clip editing system for players to cut together a masterpiece when they nail a sequence of tricks. The control scheme is basically heavily on analog controls, with players having to carefully consider balance as they attempt their tricks. While the game is based in New York City, the studio promises to listen to fanfeed back and actively evolve areas in order to create better in-game spots for skateboarding.
The title made its first appearance on Kickstarter back in November 2017, where the studio raised about $125,000 – more than double its crowdfunding goal. With plenty of promises made to fans, it’ll be interesting to see if creā-ture Studios manages to bring over the Skate faithful and carve its place in the skateboarding world on its own merit.
Session currently has no official release date, but is expected to release on PC and Xbox One in July 2019
