A brief update on the status of the game and upcoming events!

Hey guys!

Hope you all have been well. So I’ve got good news and bad news. How ’bout we get the bad news out of the way first, yeah? Sadly, She Dreams Elsewhere won’t be releasing this summer, but instead has been pushed back to later this winter.

But why tho? Long story short…

  1. Writing is rewriting – I’ve just been changing around some story elements which tends to lead to level design alterations, cutscene reworkings, etc. It’s not a ton of work looking at what I’ve done so far and what’s left to go, but it’s still a lot and is very time-consuming. (side note: mostly everything story-related is now locked down, and I’m LOVING how its all turning out thus far! blog post on the process soon.)
  2. Mac support is a paiiiiiiiiiin – Yeah, I’ve been finding this one out the hard way. With all the tester feedback coming in, most of the technical issues popping up are from the Mac side of things, and since I don’t have a Mac of my own currently… yeah. Fun times. With that being said, Mac support is still confirmed, but it’ll just take a bit longer to iron out the technical kinks (both on Mac and all three platforms overall) Still love ya, Mac users!
  3. Wow, that’s a lotta games…Check out the release schedule for upcoming games within the next three months. What names to do you see? What publishers? Spider-Man, Dragon Quest XI, Call of Duty, Battlefield V, Fallout 76, Life is Strange 2, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, FRIGGIN’ RED DEAD REDEMPTION 2!?

and that’s not even counting indie games, Nintendo-exclusive games or games I otherwise don’t know/care about! Yes, many of these games aren’t necessarily “competition”, but from a press/PR-standpoint, they’ll all be taking attention away from Dreams. So to give the game the best chance on launch week, I’d like to launch as far away as possible from those AAA juggernauts.

  4. Misc. stuff – finishing things that are unfinished, more prep for the marketing plan, general QA and polish, etc., etc….

I’ll be announcing the actual release date about a month before launch, so stay tuned until then.

With that being said, here’s some actual good news! There’s going to be a public demo available to play in September containing the first hour of gameplay! I was against releasing it publicly for the longest time, but since there’s a longer road to release now, I figured “why not”, y’know?

If you can’t wait and would like to get your hands on the demo sooner, you can sign up to be a beta tester here!

I’m also considering taking one of the shorter, standalone sidequests and including it within the demo as well, but I’m still not entirely sure on that. If I did, I would mainly do it because for GDEX’s sake-

…oh yeah I haven’t mentioned GDEX yet ahahaha

So yeah. On September 29-30, She Dreams Elsewhere will be playable on the show floor at GDEX 2018 in Columbus, Ohio. If you’ll be at the show, stop by and say hello! I’d love to see you.

For those of you at home – besides the demo, I’ll also be releasing a new trailer/gameplay video next month as well! (In additions to the regular screenshots on Twitter and Instagram). Please look forward to it.

‘Till next time, be excellent to each other. ;)
