RescueNauts - Fast paced arcade action for one or two players

For the last 4 weeks, Iain Gillespie and I have been working on a little project in our spare time. It’s called RescueNauts. We started development with one eye on entering the Edge Get In To Games competition, and with the other eye on making something small, refined and fun. This is what we came up with.

What is RescueNauts?

We both have very fond memories of growing up playing games whilst sat next to your mates on the sofa, and also of very difficult, very competitive arcade games. We tried to combine it here, and I think we did a good job in such a short space of time.

Why 'one or two players' ? Well, there are two characters and roles to play in the game. One character is on a bike, and needs to dodge stuff. The other character is on a moving platform and must shoot things to clear the road. You can either control both characters by yourself, or you can team up with a buddy and control one each. Whilst being the same game, the overall experience is very different depending on how you play.

Now it's submitted, we're planning on where to take it to next. We'll keep developing, and we'll keep updating, but for the time being we're super excited to get it in front of people to play.

Download RecuseNauts.

Links for the Windows, Mac and Linux builds can be found on our downloads page.

Or play in a browser.

We have the game on GameJolt for play in browsers, so you can check it out there if you want.

What's Next?

The initial reaction has been very positive, and we're very keen to continue development. There's lots of stuff we couldn't do in 4 weeks, but will start exploring those possibilities in the near future. Part of that direction will be dictated by what we gain from user feedback and playtesting. So, for now, we're keen to let people play the game.

Hope you enjoy!
