Networking update 3
Well it is a great start for the server. We have started our first real test of the server framework and it is functioning just awesomely. The servers ability to handle latency (lag) is better then expected easily handling average lags in the 225+ millisecond range and allowing the clients to render ships smoothly. For a 'twich' style game that is a huge step forward. About half of my beta testers are in the Europe (I am in the USA) so even with the lags involved the game still plays well. Ideally I will have servers setup in the USA and Europe for lower latency. I am shooting for clients to have an average 150 milliseconds or lower on a client. At that low of a latency it is just butter smooth and very accurate .
I will be working on better handling of packet loss to improve game play and client rendering of ships. I am very happy to have the server working and on its way. As soon as I fix a few bugs and make a few changes I will post a video of game play.
Thanks for supporting Phoenix USC,
