Post news Report RSS OverDose Closes In On Last 20 Days Of IndieGoGo Campaign!

Well, time sure comes around fast these days. Seems like only the other day we started the OverDose funding project on IndieGoGo, yet here I am talking about us being in the last 20 days already! Crazy! For those of you that don’t know what the IndieGoGo funding project is, its an area we set up to get help with funding development on OverDose. It allowed you to pre-order the game, at the same time as helping us make it, while getting yourself some cool extras in the process.

OverDose Closes In On Last 20 Days Of IndieGoGo Campaign!

While we are a good way from our target, we never expected such a good turn out really, and its really great of you all to show your support, even though we haven’t released a gameplay teaser yet. That’s pretty cool!

So, if you haven’t already donated/pre-ordered, get over to the IndieGoGo page and give it a go!

Whats New With OverDose?

In OverDose related news, we have some good news indeed for you. For one, OverDose development has kicked up several notches, with new modelers joing all the time. As you can see from our screenshots, we have some pretty kick arse weapon model guys joining that are making some really cool original looking designs, that hopefully capture some of that triple A work you really want to see.

What About That Level Editor…?

Good news, every one! The OverDose level editor is nearly ready for use :D And while it wont support real time lighting quite yet (something you can do in real time in the engine anyway), it will support making the games maps and media without messing around with external editors, something that will ease the pain a lot of us face with OverDose mapping. Think of it as another step towards an awesome SDK, something we really feel like we have to push and get out there. Far, far too many PC games these days launch with no Mod tools at all, and to be quite honest with you that’s just not on in this day and age.

So thats it! Thank you for your support! Hopefully, with your help, we can get OverDose to where it deserves to be, and then we can frag each other the old fashioned way!

I can't wait for the level editor! It's really great thing you're going to give people a possibility to mod your game. Like you said, not many (if any, really) release proper mod-tools these days.

So sorry you didn't reach the goal :(.. Maybe you should try kickstarter in a while, it's more popular. Don't forget to film a video

on kickstarter this would be competing against ravaged both this and ravaged are looking very awesome but the main reason i donnated to ravaged was to do with the fact for $25 i get alot of content (game copy and beta/alpha) making it seem like a worth while purchase but unfortunatley i dont have enough money to spare for this one which seems equally awesome but doesnt look near enough finished. Still anxiously await this game and if you launch i kickstarter later i may donate.

Ravaged is built on Unreal Engine 3, so they didnt really need to do much code wise to get it up and running. OverDose is built on Id tech 2; The same engined that powers Quake 2. So theres been a huge ammount of work done, even though you may not think ;)

I do think sometimes people forget just what goes into re-writing an engine from the ground up to compete with current day ones. Some may call us crazy for not going with the doom 3 engine, but hell, OverDose is far moire advanaced and faster/cleaner now.

Also, For $15, you get the OD beta/alpha and the game pre-purchase.

i havent forgot and oh i thought it was just release my bad $15 is good value and i love to see the dev process well then if you try on kickstarter im sure ill find money to donate and i do appreciate you bascially have coded your own engine is indeed very impressive (i cant comprehend how hard that is im an artist) i hope you get the funding you need and release. id love to make maps for this which is one thing this has above ravaged atm. also if you released the engine to let others make indies id love to use this engine for my game project it looks like it could be better than udk one of the best indie made engines i have ever seen.

Oh and just as an "aside", we don't compete with anybody. Least of all another indie team who don't get paid big bucks for all this. Anything that progresses hobby guys like us is fantastic. We do have a kickstarter page set up, but we are waiting on launching it.

You're telling me!

But sadly, heres the thing... I've mailed news quite a bit to a lot of big sites, tried to get the word around, all sorts. Best I got was a Joystiq indie pitch a while back which was great, but since then, Joystiq hasn't posted anything, Kotaku wont even admit it exists (Because unless its on NeoGaf, its not worth it), NeoGaf won't let me post any more because I had the utter nerse to tell people "of course we accept donations" when people offered, and of course because this was BEFORE the whole Kickstarter crazy took off, it was seen as me begging for money (No idea)...

So many other sites I can't even remember...

Thing is, I send pics, video, info, all sorts, and no bugger will run with any info.

So yeah, as a little call out to fans, if anybody can, mail whatever sites you can and just let them know all about OverDose, because we DO want the word out! But its hard :(

I may actually write up a template in a bit and then mail it to every site I can, but even then... Bet nobody posts anything :(

For sure I will try get the word out also try get the news on crossfire.nu (big W:ET community), TotalHalibut on youtube etc. Also You may try what Wolffire do with Overgrowth which is making videos about arts-assets and updates putting them on Youtube and Gametrailers. Yes it's more work I know, but I don't see any other way. I really wish all the best for your team.

Just FYI, I just sent out about 20 or so mails to various news sites with a written message containing info, pics, concept, media and videos, as well as links.

If everybody could list sites they read for gaming news and let me know of where they think I should send this to, please be my guest, it will help a lot.
