Post news Report RSS New Website + Desura Support!

I’m beginning to see a trend with these blog posts I make. I tend to only really make them when there is big news relating to the game. I’m going to try and stop doing that and instead make smaller updates. That way interest in the game grows gradually, instead of in clumps. But that only applies to future posts. So onwards to major stuff!

The Website…

…Is up! Yep, I registered a domain name and have since populated it. If you head on over to crisisthegame.com you will see a beautifully decorated website with illustrious art relating to Crisis at Alpha Centauri! … Okay, so it isn’t so great, but it does the job. While I do have a copy of Dreamweaver CS4 it’s been a few years since I’ve worked in it, so I simply used iWeb to design the site. It’s not fantastic, but it does what I need it to.

Right now there are two sections: Home, which displays general info about the game; and Screenshots, which obviously shows off some nice pictures of the game. There is a “Contact” button, but it just redirects back here to IndieDB in a compose message window.

Desura

I have submitted Crisis at Alpha Centauri to the Desura network. I was chatting with someone over the distribution platform and, upon reading up on it, noticed the nice developer features (most notably the Beta testing support). So I promptly signed up and am now waiting for publishing rights. Once that’s done you all should expect beta testing to go underway. I’ve been thinking about running a few contests to get beta participants. Of course, once Crisis is done, I’ll release it on Desura first, and then begin talks with Steam to get it on their platform.

The Art (Once Again)

I’ve been tweaking the art again. I won’t spare you all the long talks about it this time though. If you would like to see the changes just head over to the website screenshots section. (Oh yeah, plugging the website =D)

I Almost Forgot...

The first gameplay video has been released!!!

That’s it for this update. Again, hopefully I’ll make all future updates be less big news and more general news. Hopefully that’ll condense them more as well.

Hopefully the levels become more challenging as you go on .

They will, but the levels in the video are already pretty challenging. As I said in the comments on it, I blew through them because I've played them so much (I've logged over 2000 deaths testing them). The average person I've tested dies quite a bit when learning the game and playing those levels anyhow (around 10~20 times). I could make them more challenging, but given the fact that this is Stage 1, I thought I'd lighten them up a little bit.
