Here is the latest in our new weekly Overgrowth alpha format! David himself took some time to illustrate the traditional changelog in video form.
Don't forget that you can help support us, try out our weekly alphas (such as the one in the video), and chat with other preorderers in the Secret Preorder Forum by preordering Overgrowth.
Be sure to watch it in HD!
The features highlighted in the above video are as follows (among some extra ones thrown in for good measure):
- Initial native Linux support
- Fixed some animation problems
- Terrain preprocessing uses much less RAM
- Fixed problem with hotspot script loading
- Changed Mac write directory from "Lugaru 2" to "Overgrowth"
- Changed Linux write directory to $XDG_DATA_HOME/Overgrowth/ with fallback to ~/.local/share/Overgrowth/
- Bypassable error message for case-incorrect paths
- Fixed segfault on Linux on fall recovery
- Temporarily disabled character LOD on Linux to fix 'stretching' artifacts
Thanks as always for all the support! See you guys in IRC and the forums.
Also, feel free to support us by preordering Overgrowth!

For new users:
If you have not installed Overgrowth yet you can use the SUMLauncher (http://forums.wolfire.com/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=14201) to download it!
If you already have Overgrowth installed you can use the SUMLauncher to update it to the latest alpha.
The SUMLauncher also allows you to install the Menu Mod (http://forums.wolfire.com/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=12471) which gives you another 105+ maps to try.
For Existing SUMLauncher users:
If the menu files were changed in this alpha, the menu mod will no longer work. Updating the Menu Mod (to re-enable custom maps) might take us a little while. Once we have uploaded a new version you can use the menu mod installer to update it. (And don't worry, it won't break anything if you try running the installer before we upload the new files.)
It may also take us a bit to update the Menu Mod to include any new maps that this alpha may have added.
For future updates keep an eye on our twitter, @SUMOGUtilities (https://twitter.com/SUMOGUtilities)!
That ambush was sick! As I always say this game's gameplay feels frighteningly realistic.
by the time he knew he was dying by a knife it was thrown at him (sweetest assassination)
Always a pleasure to watch these updates. Keep up the great work!
Neat update! I imagine the pre-loading stuff has the potential to make the game run a lot smoother.
Thank you for working on the Native Linux port. Everything is looking great, just have to download and test in Fedora 16 again.
Soo .. is there a reason that we jumped from update #178 to #180 without hitting #179? Just wondering since I noticed the miss... I was lacking my weekly fix :/
Oh, nevermind -
Woo! :D
Crap. I told myself I'd pre-order the game when there's linux alphas. Now I'm gonna have to pre-order. You win :D...
Great progress. I love how you managed to load all assets at startup, especially without users having to think about it. Well done!
