Post news Report RSS New Devlog Video - Polish and Progress

Here's another devlog video for Soldier Of, showing more polish and progress.

Posted by on

Hey. So, here's another devlog video showing my progress on Soldier Of. I haven't done a lot of new, cool stuff, but I've been polishing and tuning the game, adding things and fixing bugs. You can now die, as well as save and load your game. When you get a 'rare' item, the camera zooms in. Those are the kinds of little things that I've been working on (though proper saving and loading is kind of a 'big thing'). :)

I added sounds to the equipment menu and added a 'bleepity' sound to advancing text in dialogue. You can hear it in the video.

I still have to look into online multi-player, but it is something that I would like to do. I think it would be cool to play online, especially survival or even co-op story mode. Although I'm not sure exactly how co-op would work - both characters couldn't be Simon, ha. I actually got a Python multi-player module made by a user of the BGE from the BlenderArtists forums - check it out, by the way, for a great community of BGE users and some really cool resources. Anyway, it's something that I would like to look into.

Also, here's the new song that I featured in the video - it's called "Night".

If you want to listen to other Soldier Of songs (including songs that I haven't put out here), you can do so on SoundCloud. If you wanted to be surprised, though, you could wait until you play the game.

Anywho, thanks for reading and watching. I hope to have another demo once I've got more content. Hope you'll have fun when it's released!

The game looks really cool and interesting. The only complaint I have is that the flames in the dungeon flicker too rapidly and it hurts my eyes. I think making them flicker slower and smoother, or add a little more ambient light to the scene would make it less of an eye strainer.

Keep up the good work! I can't wait to see more.

Do you mean it flickers too much in the video, or the demo? (I'm guessing you mean the video.) I'll see about adjusting it to flicker a little less rapidly. Thanks a lot!

Yes I mean the video. I have not tried the demo yet, but I will sometime soon.
