Post news Report RSS More Coastal Influence

A fresh video trailer for Coastal Influence. Plus, more information on the infantry accuracy system, great new performance news, a new utility, and more.

First, some quick clarifications on what was posted last time about resource collection. At the base rate, ore will grow quick enough to keep pace with the AI Ore Truck. If you over-mine a particular resource patch, the AI will know enough to find a new collection area. Great!

Accuracy Modifiers

Basically all of the infantry weapons have been updated with the new accuracy system. We had some concerns about weapon accuracy as you switch between stances/states. Earlier, if you went from being on fire and jumping straight to a crouching position, your aim would "snap" to the more accurate firing pattern. This is no longer the case, and each weapon now has a sort of recovery rate for how quickly it returns to normal.

Like most things you see in these updates, these aren't final. Values given are in degrees; recovery is degrees per second. To read this properly, you begin with the base standing accuracy and then begin adding the modifiers to get your final error angle. "While crouched" and "While sprint" are given as examples. Accuracy can't improve beyond 0-error.
The "recovery" adjustment matters when going from a higher penalty to a lower penalty, so jumping with an M16 immediately increases your weapon error by 2 degrees. Once you land, your accuracy recovers by 1 degree per second.

More Coastal Influence

Verti60 went ahead and put together a fun promotional video of Coastal Influence, the same map from last week. Enjoy! The bridge health is a little bit un-tested right now, so he had to give it a little extra oomph with a demolition truck behind the scenes.

Performance Enhancements

Saberhawk's been doing more optimizations under the hood, and on top of previous performance gains, he's been able to achieve another substantial jump in framerate through ~static batching~ that reduces overall draw calls. In a typical scene that currently renders at roughly 100FPS after previous improvements, we're now seeing 160FPS while passing full lighting data and applying programmable shader logic to everything. This also means a bit more work shoved off to your GPU, which is great considering how CPU-bound our engine typically is.

Donations?

For a long time now, Catalyst has been supporting and funding our server infrastructure, but has recently had some real life circumstances pop up and we've decided to ask the community for assistance. It's about $215 a month to keep everything running, and we'd really appreciate it if you would like to help us cover that cost. If you're interested in contributing, you can use Bluehellp....com to make a donation direct via PayPal. Thank you.

LevelEdit_Path

One last thing, Saberhawk's also put together a simple application for updating your LevelEdit's registry paths to point to whatever game folder you want, without the hassle of digging through regedit. Simply drag your LE executable onto Leveledit_path and then pick a target game folder. It will be part of the next SDK update, but it is already available on its own.

We've actually got a newer installer available that was intended for use by those with .NET4 problems. Try this slightly different one out:

It doesnt give an option to skip the .net install, it deletes the old file then tries to extract the new one and jams, same happens on different install path.

Admin privs and compatibility mode have also been tried.
Do you just have the "updater.exe", that will download the files from the server? like a .zip that doesn't use the nullsoft installer?

That one I linked was supposed to have the option to skip it. I don't have a handy version of the current launcher build you can simply extract, but I'll try to get one up sometime. Please end a PM to Danpaul on our forum as he is responsible for the launcher and its installer and may be able to help.
