Minecraft 1.4.1 Pre-release!

A day -1 patch! Lovely! No but seriously, there was a big issue causing mobs to suffocate and fall through wooden floors that we really needed to fix. The full list of fixes are…

  • Fixed mobs glitching through wooden floors
  • Fixed players glitching through Beacons
  • Fixed Redstone Repeaters getting stuck in ‘on’ state
  • Bats spawn less frequently
  • A number of minor font fixes
  • Activated the Wither painting
  • Fixed wet wolves looking way too scary
  • Tweaked naming costs in the Anvil
  • Tweaked enchantment points reward for smelting
  • Fixed bug that allowed any item to be placed in the armor slots
  • Fixed mob spawners spawning too quickly

Since we do these pre-releases mainly to prepare modders and server admins (and not to find and fix bugs), we’ve decided to push the release of 1.4(.1) one day to Thursday, October 25. Again, since I know this is a lot of text to read:

  • Release date: Thursday October 25

Minecraft 1.4.2 Pre-release!

Busy day on the Mojang blog indeed! Don’t forget to check out the other posts for info on the bug tracker, Minecon and our Pretty Scary Screenshot competition!

However, I need to inform you that we’ve uploaded a 1.4.2 version of Minecraft. This version will be released in the launcher tomorrow morning (Central European time zone). What we fixed was,

  • Fixed a severe memory leak in the server. Big thanks to Rickard Åberg and John Marzano for helping me locate this problem.
  • Corrected rendering of fences and cobblestone walls

Again, for clarity:

  • Release date: Thursday October 25

Am I the only one who regrets buying Minecraft more and more after seeing updates about it?

You can always get an older version and play it locally if you want, and if you don't like the direction the core game is going, there are plenty of mods for you to play! :)

Yeah, that's pretty much what I always do if I play, or use the Olddays mod. It's just a shame with all the wasted potential, at least in my eyes. I just wished they stuck with more building and mining than trying to make an adventure-based game.

Well with new updates comes a more vast variety of building styles and different ways to mine such as using enderpearls to traverse caves, but I understand the people who like the old Minecraft.

Yes, you are. Take off your damn nostalgia goggles.

The thing about minecraft it does not force you to do anything.
Don't want to go to nether, and place about with your trees and your mines? Then do it, no one forces you to mine 10 obsidian and build a portal. Don't want to go to the end? Don't do it. Hate the wither? Don't summon one.

It's as that simple. It's not wasted potential, if it were to people like yo, minecraft would never evolve, and just stay in "Break blocks, build stuff" stage, that now is still more or less the same, only with added optional sprinkles and chocolate chips.

It probably is mostly nostalgia, but now it also has so much pointless stuff in it. Things like the Enderdragon. There is absolutely no purpose to killing it, for all you get is an egg which, at the moment, does nothing. The pointless hunger bar, like Warner said, and pretty much no consequence for death. Sure you might loose some items, but by the time you die you will have the materials to make everything you had and more. The nether is still very boring and even after the bland, and stale fortresses were added to it. Whenever I do play the up to date versions, I don't even worry about food. I just kill myself and respawn back at my base or the checkpoints I make for that specific reason. The new sounds, in my opinion, are horrendous. I believe they should've had kept with the more cartoony sounds. The lackluster RPG elements in place like the XP bar with the only purpose of using a terribly made enchanting system. The potions are bad and are just too much trouble than it is worth. It has pretty much no originality aside from the mining and building. Creepers were a complete accident, zombies are boring and in pretty much everything, skeletons that shoot arrows are just a cliché, etc. The terrible dev team is another reason. They have more unfulfilled promises than Bethesda and Peter Molyneux combined. Anyways, sorry for the wall of text, kinda got carried away. Have a great day!

@sheldonian97 Terribly sorry, I accidentally clicked on the minus karma button!

well I like the mobs. Creeper drop gunpowder, skellies are source for bonemeal (and arrows early on!).

Yeah, no consquences to death... you try getting out to get your diamond pick back from that cluster **** of mobs, a mile away from your spawn point.

The enchanting system is for what reason? because you can choose an enchantment? it's better then the generic "apply effect of you choosing to sword." that was in, for example, skyrim.

The hunger bar adds an element to minecraft survival, which is, well, ABOUT SURVIVAL.

In your opinion. You get used to them. I like them.

Creeper are the De-facto face of minecraft since the first time they appeared. Mobs are part of the game.

Then don't use potions, duh.

If you hate the game so much, why play it?
Go back to indev if you wish, some of us DO like the way minecraft is going.

Again, fi it were to people like you, games still would be sprite based, with no new stuff whatsoever.

I hate then whenever the developers go out of their way to add new creative stuff to the game, that are simply free, optional stuff, mostly, people go "they changed it now it sucks". It's not like anyone forces you to update the game.

Minecraft is not your, it's not mine, and it's only mojangs. If you hate the game some much, stop playing it, and stop going "they changed it now it sucks" on every update.

There's only three things I miss:
The old world generation code (the new structures are cool, but the old cliffs and stuff are what I miss).
Snow worlds (where it snowed all the time).
The lack of hunger meters.

Otherwise, I think the updates are great.

I agree on the hunger meter. It's totally useless.
