Hey everyone, thanks for tuning back in for another Devlog! This time we’re taking a look at the progress made over March. A lot of work has been put into tidying up Act 1 for the demo - you’ll be able to play it soon, I swear!
A new map design, gameplay alterations and special animations! Keep reading to find out more!
Gameplay Changes
- The final level has been reworked, primarily around the wall bouncing mechanic. In previous builds, the wall bouncing felt clunky and slowed down a run, however it’s now been changed so your momentum isn’t affected.
- Colliding with a cannon now sends you upwards with your momentum, rather than hitting you backwards and cancelling your speed.
- The max speed of RunMan has been uncapped, which has allowed all levels to be slightly longer, as well as increase the skill ceiling.
Art Updates
The map has gone through some changes. The order of the levels has been changed, some of the levels have been renamed, new graphics have been added and the medals you collect now show on the left hand side. See the old vs new map below!
New animations have been added for various scenarios. Accelerating, slowing down, hitting something, as well as birds smacking you about if you get too high. These have all been added for better readability of the gameplay, to really understand what’s happening with RunMan and to let you, the player, get the fastest time possible.
Other cool things
Story aspects have been added in! A short intro and outro have been added in to give some context to the game, as well as show what to expect within the full game release. ⇩
A fullscreen button, toggle mute music button and toggle mute SFX button have been added in. ⇩
The UI now has your target time and best time when you’re running levels. ⇩
New graphics have been added in when you start and finish a level, as well as RunMan popping up to tell you when you get a new personal best, and a medal floating into the screen when you hit a target time! ⇩
Our next update will (fingers crossed!) include details of a demo release date, so make sure you follow the game and wishlist RunMan Turbo if you haven’t already over on Steam!
See you next time!
