Hi I'm Tim Jung, the newest volunteer of team Desura, and I've taken up the role as the "Linux Games Lead". What this means is that I'll be the main person responsible for getting Linux games listed on Desura, and working with the developer/publishers to keep those games updated. With the Desura Linux client being released soon, it's going to be very interesting to see which community requested features will be implemented, and how it affects the Linux gaming community.
A little background about me:
Having used computers since 1978, it was amazing to stumble across Linux around 1994 or so. I fell in love with the idea of a Unix like system that could run on my desktop computer. Linux has come a long way since then, and so has the Linux gaming community. Lately, I have been playing Steel Storm: Burning Retribution, a great indie game. Games like this are what Desura focuses on and I'm looking forward to helping Desura become a top place for indie developers to showcase their Linux friendly games. It won't just be indie games though, as there are plans to carry all the entertaining and fun Linux games we can get our hands on.
I'm going to be putting quite a bit of work into the catalog prior to the beta launch. If there are specific Linux games that you would like to see let me know by PM and I will work on adding them to Desura.
Revenge Of The Titans would be neat. By the way, the Windows version is outdated.

Any support for windows games that have Linux native support? like Doom3, UT99,2004 etc?
World of Padman and other id-Tech 3 or ioquake3 driven games run natively under Linux. Shouldn't be too hard to implement. I cannot wait to test Desura with Linux and to offer our fans the possibility to install the game with Desura.

InMomentum is a UDK game. I'd love to see it on Linux too, but it's not going to happen.

We are already working to add the Humble Indie Bundle Linux games to the system. I believe those are going to be among the first added to the system.
I am planning on working with developers who already have games on Desura to help them get the Linux versions of their games added to the system.
Other developers not already on Desura will need to be contacted about joining Desura and getting their games, especially Linux versions, added to the system. I am hopeful that developers will be responsive and want to see their Linux games available to a wider market. You can also contact developers and let them know you would like to see their games available on Desura. It may help make them aware of the Linux client coming out.
Any of the mainstream commerical games that have Linux engines like Doom 3, Unreal Tournament Gold/2003/2004, and similar titles are going to be a little problematic. Dealing with the large companies who control those titles is a very long and slow process. I would love to see Neverwinter Nights for Linux available on Desura, but again that is a long slow process to make it happen. If the community petitions these companies, that might help make the process possibly a little faster. I'm not saying that they won't be investigated, but the process definitely won't be fast..
I have also been looking at some of the open source games for Linux. I have been trying to figure out which are the most popular that the community would like to see added first. If you have specific open source games that you would like to see available on Desura let me know so I can get an idea of what the community is looking for.

I think maybe I need to be a bit more clear. I have a list of probably every single indie Linux game out there. I even have a few that most people might not have known were out there. I was looking for the community to help prioritize the list as to which games, that are not already on Desura, should be added first.
The same with the open source games. I have a huge list of those, but I was looking for the community to name off some of their favorites that they would like to see on the system first.
See: My list. Those are the best Linux games I know of that aren't already on Desura (ie, part of the hibs)
For the opensource games - most of the most popular of them I think are already added as standard packages to mainstreeam distrubutions.
As I know, FreeCiv, Battle for Westnoth and AstroMenace are rather popular, also liked the screens of this one: Flightgear.org
But as for me - I would surely prefer to see some new interesting titles probably released at the same time with desura native client rather than the ones available for ages.
Also, as I have already said, there are some old native games with declired linux port and having attractive videos\screenshots which I was not able to run on my modern system or even could not find where to get the binary - many of them are listed at the middle/bottom of this list Penguspy.com (for example, I can't run darwinia due to some gcc version error message) - I would also love to see their fresh recompiled versions running without problems from desura.
Also if you will be able to bring native HOMM3 to linux desura, this would be epic.
Amnesia: The Dark Descent!
As much as I'd like to see the Unreal games on Desura for Linux, Epic has blatantly fired the middle finger at the Linux community with their handling of the Unreal Tournament III Linux port. I don't see them cooperating at all. However, I'd really like to see Id's catalog, and I buy those up in an instant.

You mention it is a slow and painful process to bring mainstream commercial games over, but what about free commercial games? My immediate thought is Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory; it's not something you can charge for, but I'd love to see it on Desura (because installing it on a modern Linux distro is a nightmare when it comes to sound).
As benderamp already said, when we talk about opensource games then most of the most popular games have already been added to mainstream distrubutions.
But I would love to see the following games in Desura Linux:

I don't think every little Open Source game should be available on Desura, there are simply too many, and the quality varies a lot.
That said, there are games out there that definitely should make the cut:
- Batlle for Wesnoth
- FreeCiv
- TeeWorlds
- a lot of others
I wouldn't want Desura to only serve pay-games, as it'd eliminate one of the reason I would like it as a linux-user in the first place: to have all my games in one, easy-to-access-and-install, place.
It's not that I can't install games outside Desura, it just wouldn't be...as nice.

You are correct that not every single open source game out there is a great game or even in a state that allows you to play it without hassles. So no, not every open source game will be on the system. You don't need to worry, there will be some open source games available. We are just looking at what is out there and what the community would like to see available on Desura. We definitely want to hear from the community as to what you would like and even things you don't like.

I also have 11 Open Source games that for will be added in my first round. I will be getting to more but there is only so much time in the day and I am going as fast as I can. How about games that have no excuse not to be on Linux due to them being written on theoretically cross-platform engines. Like Torchlight (Ogre3D) and Space Pirates And Zombies (Torque).
Should we be campaigning? Can Desura throw sales figures at these companies perhaps once they have some to throw around?

Linux doesn't have any good melee games with the exception of Lugaru, and it's upcoming sequel.
You might get with Human Head Studios. Since Loki is not distributing it anymore, it's might be a good opportunity for them to get some sales for the game.
