Post news RSS HPP 3.1.1 Alpha Version for TFH Now Available!

A new alpha version of the mod is now available from the downloads section. Several severe AI bugs were fixed as well as some events that were broken by the FTM->TFH switch. Tank doctrines have been updated to use the TFH CA system, and the CA types have been assigned. The new Trade Theater system has also been implemented; Spain now has to use ships to trade with Germany, and Germany will have to use convoys to trade with Sweden or the USSR. Expect to see much heavier convoy traffic.

The mod is still in an alpha state and we expect there to be bugs and possibly crashes. If you follow the install instructions to the letter then it will start up without any problems; I'm testing with the exact same download you guys will get and follow the instructions I wrote down in the download section and can start up the mod with no problems, so if you're getting startup issues then go double-check the install instructions. Once the game starts though, there may be crashes and buggy AI behavior. If you get a crash or see the AI fall asleep or build/research something silly then PLEASE comment here, in the ModDB forum for the HPP (check out the forum link to the upper-right, next to images), or the mod's main forum (official page in the mod's profile to the right) telling us what happened. The more detail you can provide the faster we can fix the bug or crash.

For AI-related bugs, it would help tremendously if after you quit the game you would go to the folder Documents\Paradox Interactive\Hearts of Iron III\HPP\logs, open the file system.log in notepad or some other editor, and check the bottom of the file for errors. This file is deleted every time you start the game, so please look at it and report any errors at the bottom before you start the game up again if you saw the AI fall asleep. If you do see any errors please report them, because the errors will point to the files we need to fix.

Also, please keep in mind that generating the map cache can take a long time and hog up a bunch of memory. If you have an older computer, you may want to go to Documents\Paradox Interactive\Hearts of Iron III\HPP\map (make this folder if it doesn't exist) and copy your vanilla Documents\Paradox Interactive\Hearts of Iron III\map\cache folder to that location. This will bypass the map cache generation. You'll lose out on the visual region changes (the thick black borders on the map), but nothing else.

Hey, I have been playing your mod for a few hours (as Germany) and I am constantly getting crashes, at around April 1936.

Odd, I played Germany too for about 4 hours last night and didn't get any CTDs. Did you find anything in the system log (see the 2nd to last paragraph)? LUA errors are the most common cause of crashes, so knowing if there are errors in your log will really help narrow down where the CTD is. What I have local is the exact same thing that's available from the download section; I just zipped up the mod files and uploaded them here.

Hi,
I've been playing the new version and CTD's are pretty common. Can't find anything in the logs about them, but I'll describe the problems. When playing Germany, in the vienna award event, Czechoslovakia chose to fight, after about a week of the war, a CTD happened. This happened numerous times and I finally decided to change the events .txt so that Czechoslovakia doesn't do that. Then France decided to declare war before the Danzig event. Same thing - a week of war, then CTD (somehow it happened after about a month).

Now I'm playing as Italy and the game crashes everytime right after the Danzig event. Also had many random CTD's (my guess is that a random event tries to fire up, but something's messed up and the game crashes).

sometimes, not somehow ... sometimes the game crashed after a month of war with France.

same here, I've started playing as Japan after playing as Germany (constantly crashing) and it went pretty good (not much CTDs) but when WW2 started, it kept crashing, every 30 mins.

We're getting the post-Danzig crash too and are looking into the cause of it. At the moment we think it's either related to the AI mobilization stuff or the new trade theater system is messing up some events.

SSmith thinks he fixed it today, so I'll most likely post a new version tomorrow. I want to run through the game to 1942 first to see if there are more crashes hiding in the code. I know there's a crash when you try to look at the strategic resources table in the statistics screen, but have no idea what's causing it and the game's logs don't help. There's also an event-related crash when the USA is defeated and splits up (low priority, as you won't see it right now unless you cheat). Aside from those two, I haven't seen any crashes yet in my test game (I'm in Oct. 1939 now), but want to get further in my test game before releasing a new version for you guys.

The main reason for the crashes is that the LUA hooks changed between FTM and TFH, so some things that used to work are now broken, but the game's logs don't give us any info, so we're left trying to find the cause without having a single clue. SSmith has been doing a great job of adapting Slan's old AI files to the new expansion. It's not easy digging through 3-year-old code you didn't write to fix a new crash when you don't have anything to go off of.
