Post news Report RSS HPL 3.0 Upgrade Successful

What is about to change now? We from Blaster Lizard have upgraded the engine from Amnesia: The Dark Descent to the Soma's newest one, called HPL 3, but what this means?

Posted by on

Dear ModDB trackers,

Since SOMA's announcement, we have been dealing with the pressure to release Amnesia: Fear in Hands the fastest possible. Unfortunately, this wasn't possible. But it's not only bad news. We have been able to upgrade the engine from HPL 2.5 to HPL 3 with extreme success, what means that we will be able to cross the entire development from the dated engine to the newest one, without losing any progress.

All the entities, models, characters, sounds, particles and mods that we have done for Amnesia: Fear in Hands through the past engine have been imported to the new software. Unfortunately this means that Amnesia: Fear in Hands will not be supported as a TDD custom-story anymore. There is good things about that? Yes of course there are. With the new features included in the new Level Editor, the Steam Workshop uploader, the VoiceTriggers and everything else, the experience that we were creating for the fans will be extremely increased and enhanced.

This means that it will be easier to import new 3D models for the game, that the new particle effects will be smoother and more realistic, that the shaders will be upgraded for the new machines with the latest Direct X builds and much more. We can't wait to show the result of this new phase of development. We will be taking some more time to optimize everything to work properly in the game, to assure that it will be bugless and will be working properly.

We do not think that it will be necessary to delay (even more) the release of the game, but we will be playing with the new toys that this powerful engine has to offer for sure. We hope to have more details to share very soon. I'm happy to announce that our break-time from our team related from problems that has occurred in the past will soon be over and we will be able to get back on track, with full strengh, to show what we have on hands for all of our loved fans and trackers.

It's also very important to advice for the newest trackers that the progress from all of our screenshots in this ModDB page is related with dated progress and the final result will no longer look like the footage that is being shown in this mod page. We hope to have new screenshots to show soon enough.

I think this all great news. I'm planning on getting SOMA for this mod as well as others. Keep it up, can't wait to see pics of the mod with the updated engine.
