Post news Report RSS Hidden Asset development video #28

In this video, I take a small detour back to melee combat to fix some issues, then sketch out the rest of the second map.

It seems there are always parts of a game's code you end up returning to again and again. For me, that's the melee combat code. I've completely overhauled the way melee combat works twice now -- and every time I think that now I'm done. And while the general feel of melee combat is now locked after I added high and low melee attacks a couple of months ago, minor issues still pop up from time to time.

So in this video, I return to melee combat for a brief moment to fix two issues: 1) the player would get animation locked and unable to attack or block when being pummeled by a group of NPCs, and 2) when blocking one NPC, all other NPCs attacking at that same moment would also get blocked and stunned.

After fixing this, I can finally return to my primary task at the moment -- finishing up the second map so the first two maps are ready for closed alpha testing. So I then sketch out the rest of that map.

Hidden Asset is an isometric assassination/stealth game with an emphasis on utilizing high-tech gear and your environment to avoid detection. As you progress through the game, new equipment will be purchasable for the money you make. The game takes place in a not-too-distant future devastated by a global economic crisis. In this world, corporations are no longer under control of the law. Or morals.
