Post news Report RSS FPS Terminator June 2010 update

Much progress has been accomplished this past month. The project is back in content development mode. I've got some cool models and concept art to show off, aswell as some gameplay videos. I still promise to give you guys a playable demo in july, broken or not.

Juggling this project with school is quite the challenge. I'm personally pleased with how things are shaping. I'm also very grateful for the moddb community on supplying moral support, and motivation. In the last news article I announced the move to the Unreal Development kit, and it seems to be accepted well upon moddb. but in that article I never really had any content to showcase. now that I've got more content, we should get started.

My concept art would never look like this if it wasn't for a little inspiration from school. Watching a few student peers at work really gave me that "ding".

Nicknamed, "Nevadageddon"


Most of the environments will be very "Cameron-esque"


But others WILL step out side of the canon a bit.

Hopefully from those concepts, you'll get the Idea that the game's campaign will take the player through various backdrops. And theoretically, these flavors of atmosphere will spice up the gameplay and pacing as you move from one scenario to the next.

Some iterations like facial hair, and certain armor pieces on the resistance soldiers will allow
the player tell apart "redshirtNPCs" to "MainCharacterNPCs"(close squadmates).

Gameplay.

Working the gameplay mechanics back from the start may seem frustrating, but UDK's powerful tools actually makes it quite fun. keep in mind that these videos are severely work in progress, at lots of tweaking still has to be done.

The Future
No matter how far behind I'll get on the project, I will not break my promise to be releasing a demo in July. It may not be developed enough to get proper feedback, but it will give the Moddb community a chance to get their feet wet. as for a full release date, it's not even close on being determined. just keep in tune for what's to come. ... Holy cow. That is absolutely amazing. All of it. Especially your concept art, too. Hello new desktop background.

The game is looking amazing, not sure about the ironsights/zoom/red... Glow sight? It seems more of a hindrance than aid.

I can't stop staring at that gun. It was amazing in screenshots, but in videos, it's even better. I really don't think I've seen a better gun in any game. In some ways, you're making Unreal Engine 3.5 rival CryEngine.

Not really, just my opinion though. They should make their own original gun, because in my opinion again, the gun doesnt seem like it'll fit in their universe :P

I fully agree with Dormant. Firstly, the weapon is not canon despite the general consensus towards 'being canon' within the mod. Secondly, I can't help but think "ripped from KZ" every time he reloads. Thirdly, the weapon doesn't have that "rebel" look to it; the salvage style. Fourthly, despite it being a laser weapon it still needs reloading.

It stands out as being an oddity, not an asset and needs a fresh look. It's a copy while everything else is completely new. It looks out of place.

looking EPIC. i wish i knew how to do that stuff (cant find good tuts) the guy and decals are rly good.. all i say is that maybe make the screen shaking thing less... shaky and stuff.. it'd be hard to keep up with.... might be dif ingame..

Wow , i just love the atmosphere you have setup here , love the efefcts and the sound , but the gun looks incredibly like the one from killzone

I hope you will add some recoil to the robots when they get hit. It would add some realism and even a second to get behind cover.

The frenetic feeling and look of that battle is amazing never see nothing like it in a game. But noticed that the player get exposed a lot during the shootout, maybe a few more features so the rebels can take advantage of they fragility, such "LEAN" and "shooting over head under the cover".

Really looking forward to that DEMO.

Very, very cool but I have some constructive criticism if you want.
The laser pew pew's, in the movies have a bigger variety, they are not just one unique pew sound, they alternate between at least 3 different pew pew sounds. It seems you just used one and because of that at some point after hearing so many of them, it kind of gets old and annoying and gives the feeling that you are playing space commander for kids.
They are too frequent and get boring fast that's what I want to say.
It wouldn't hurt to hear some other weapon sounds too, alternated with them.
As for your weapon, that's definitely not a laser weapon there. It would be better if it shoots real bullets instead of pew pew's to be honest.
Anyway good luck, I am looking forward to this mod!

This looks set to be the best Terminator based game ever made. Cant wait to see the alpha this month! If I might make a suggestion, there are two incredibly useful websites to expand the terminator mythos within this mod- The terminator wiki has all the official Terminators and weapons info culled from various sources and compiled. www .goingfaster. com/term2029/ Is not official in any capacity but has some of the best thought out and well written fan material about the resistance, skynet, and the future war I've ever come across. Either way, whatever you decide to do, I'm sure it'll be amazing!
