Well, Alpha 4 isn't here, like many of the promises I made suggested. It's rather embarrassing really, The Shaman says it produces bad omen (is the plural for omen omens, or just omen?), and Rees is already getting out the beating stick... UNLESS I release it next week!
So as usual, we have titled the post as fittingly as possible, as the main part of the preview this week is for the Anvil.
The Anvil is a new block for Alpha 4, which will be the main hub of crafting tools, as it will have 3 slots, rather than the 2 slots you can use yourself. So, you'll be able to make tools, out of all the current gems and stone we have in the game currently, and you will be able to make Pickaxes, Shovels, and Axes. Each gem will not necessarily be "better" than the previous one, as they each produce different effects, useful in different situations (to see what the effects are, have a look at the week-before-last's update "Good things come in threes!"). Also, all the known bugs with crafting will be fixed.

At the Anvil, you will be able to craft new Anvils, but how will you craft the first one!?! Simple: you won't. You'll be given one at the start of each game. Also, for those of you are wondering why the Anvil is red, that's because it's made of Thexite. This is because Thexite being a red gem and all, it will be the gem associated with Fire and Heat and all that, but also because you probably want more than one Anvil, and Thexite is the most readily available gem.
Also, forging things at an Anvil (and crafting things yourself) will not be instantaneous, like in many other games. It will be a time-consuming operation (not too long though), and when we add Dwarves, they will have the fastest forging/crafting speed out of the 3 races, but this isn't for some time now.
Ladders are in Alpha 4, fully climbable and everything, just like a ladder should!
Another thing, ladders are confirmed in Alpha 4, and will be crafted out of wood, in the regular crafting screen (why would you make it at an Anvil?), and will be completely climbable, just like a ladder should be.
One last thing, I have re-directed the task of making in-game videos over to Leon (Foxtrot070) because he has a far better chance of actually getting around to doing it.
