It's always a sad thing when big gaming related websites and products go down, first EGM and now FileFront. Given that ModDB currently uses FileFront as an external mirror its safe to say this hits everyone quite hard, especially modders. FileFront will be closed down in a few days if any of you have any files you have hosted there maybe its best if you re-download them just so you will still have a copy.

I agree. File Front was the BEST file host there ever was. NO logins required with the fastest speeds I have ever seen! Too bad the other crappy file hosts like Fileplanet can't learn to actually run a file hosting site well.
I have to agree completely there, all the other websites have some kind of insecurity issues with how many members they have or something, so they require registration just to download a file...sigh.
We'll miss you Filefront.....lets hope you come back again another day :(

FileFront was the king of the no login/registration file downloading area, it doesn't make sense for FilePlanet to monopolize everything does it? Now that FileFront is down, FilePlanet is re-evaluating the market and we want to support the gamers, modders, and uploaders. Our upload system will get an update to accomodate a large hole left by FileFront. We will focus on a short term and long term solution that gamers and modders been asking for.
All user upload files on FilePlanet can be downloaded with no reg or waiting. Big misconception all files on FilePlanet require registration account to download. Look at Planet Elderscroll, it uses our download system.
The uploader does need login to upload files though. As long the file don't get approved unto the FilePlanet site structure you guys get a free lunch. One problem we are looking at is giving users access to change and modify their file uploads and file info pages.
That is incorrect. Unless you log into gamespy or IGN you cannot download files from fileplanet. It will take you to a page that says "You must have a fileplanet account to download this file."
Fileplanet was okay up until they put a 'waiting line' system into place a couple of years back. Why should I wait two extra hours just start a download when I might find the same file as a torrent and have that done in less than 30 minutes? :-S
I haven't been this ****** since VALVE shut off the WON servers for half-life... Depressin stuff man...

I hear that! I mean between file planet (requiring to create an account) and filefront (allowing anybody to download), I'd rather keep filefront and say bye-bye to file planet.
Anyway, I hope they'll have a Phoenix-like rebirth.

Wow...I'm speechless. Filefront was my All-time-favourite site to get all the stuff i need, always got downloads with the best speed from there. Too sad :(

Now, most of the users need to find another filehosting site, but most of those sites is full of annoying adds(and viruses maybe?) or you need an account to download that file. So now we need to make an account on a crappy site...
