i know my camrma gonna instanly gonna go down, but i downloaded the pirated version. why? cause theres no ****** demo for the game. how the hell should i try it out for the love of god?

anyways the game looks good (for an source based indie!) but still feels like a mod.
-the AI is stupid like hell, i shot the guys next to him and stood still.
-the C menu is the most annoying thing in the game, and the hacking sounds can really make ppl crazy. i must be too stupid for the game but i tried 15 ways to hack the first door but i cant pass it. i dont want to lockpick all day, i want to battle cool creatures ive seen in the trailer.
-the tutorials and conversations has no voice...in 2011...u must be kidding me
-anyways, the graghics are "rather" well optimised, and the style is very unique, but the characters seems a bit random to me. some parts are very dark and have to use max brightness.

Apparently demos are "more expensive" to make for some developers. But that is coming from the industry itself, indie games ftw!

It's been a while, so I have next to no chance of finding the link, but I was reading an interview with one of the 'big' UK developers like Molyneux or Braben explaining why they hate demos.

They were suggesting that people in some random study had spent more time playing game demos than games they had bought, which made the publishers reluctant to continue the practice. The theory was that players were too busy playing demos to play 'full' games, but I would be surprised if the decision improved sales at all.

edit:
That said, I remember Molyneux gave an interview where he suggested episodic / freemium gaming (i.e. a basic game / episode to play and then pay for the rest of the game) is just a re-skinned version of the old demo / full-game dynamic.

The only response you had was to pirate the game? I was even going to post here "give me a demo, then we'll see about me buying", just like Pseudo here. Pirating and indie game is... it's just sad. And then you had the indeceny to say it on the game's -release- page? And also insult (I say insult, because from what I understand on his comment, he hasn't even gotten that far into the game) the game while you're at it. Excuse me, but when did the game devs do something bad to you?

He's only pirated it to try it out... If he likes it he's morally obliged to purchase it, and if he dislikes it why would he continue playing it? If he wasn't planning on buying it without playing it, the pirating would make no difference if he wan't going to buy it anyway. At least by playing it they will have some chance to make money off him, rather than none. They haven't lost any money then... Either the consumer or developer.

He has the right idea,by pirating to try it you don't get put on a random level that could be in the middle of the game like demos tend to do often, and pirating is a good way to try out a game you are unsure of instead of buying it and finding out if you like it,95% of all the games I have pirated I ended up buying,I would say that without pirating I would have never bought my favorite pc games.

Hey numnuts, you're playing a pirated version, just maybe it's not the same as the real thing?

-AI is fine in fact they've actually managed to surprise me once or twice with smart grenade throws and flanking movements.
-What hacking sounds? Also, hacking is easy and pretty straight forward. If you can't hack there's always a different way around. Like in the bit you apparently got stuck, as it says right in your mission log, you can just shoot out the door lock.
-The tutorials don't need a voice unless you're illiterate, all of the conversations are voiced, excepting I guess when you pirate.
-The brightness issue is a known bug, turning off the Colour Correction in the graphics options will fix it.

As for demos, they're a lot of time and effort to make, especially for an indie company. Maybe next time try watching a let's play or reading some reviews instead of pirating it then complaining about the quality.

i know that you guys are kind of take this game as your own since its adwertised on moddb, and we seen news about it several times here...but its still a game, and still suffers from a bunch of basic things. i have to be crusified by saying what other hypocrites didnt had the guts to say. im not a ****** criminal, i have over a hundred games over steam, i just want to know that i get a decent game for a decent price here...and NO, im not gonna search for a review cause i can download the real thing and try it out.

You are a criminal, and what's really sad is that you are pirating an indie game. How can we expect you to show "morality" and buy the game if you like it if you've already shown no morality by pirating an indie game.
When people say they are pirating it to "try" it out, more often than not they are just stealing it. They won't buy it.

I'll admit it would have been nice if the tutorials were voiced. Playing the game at a 1440x900 resolution I couldn't really make out what everything said in the tutorial video because it didn't go fullscreen (unless I started the video incorrectly and it does go fullscreen)

sigh when you torrent games some people like to cut out "unneccesary" articles to cut down on dl time. and pirating isnt wrong if you actually intend to buy the game if you llke it. granted you shouldnt post it like this but everyone is entotled to their opinion just like you are of them. there is no need to get butthurt. also steam is a bitch. they like to be all "mother hen" about games you get that they can **** with... anyway i will prolly be checking this game out on steam.

I actually kind of enjoyed reading the dialogue, I usually don't in games. The game is a lot of fun and it's HUGE so far, worth the $17. I had no problem with the hacking, it was kind of like a turn based RPG or something. The menus were clunky and unintuitive though.

I had never seen this game on ModDB or IndieDB and I bought it the second I saw it. As for the buried comment above, I have the following insight to add:
The AI has it's flops, but it normally can keep me on my toes. A lot of the monsters seem to want to run to a point before taking on their attacking roles, which is to be expected in most Source games. (For anyone saying, OMFG U NOOB PIRATED GAMES ARE BORKEN LOL BUYT EH REAL THING. Get educated.)

I also have a disdain for the C menu. It does what it needs to do, and the ability to customize it is quite nice, but the menu itself is kind of annoying.

Hacking is remotely easy, you just need to try it out a few times and figure out the system, the noises are quite annoying though.

Voice conversions? I was missing those as well. It would be nice if there was full English voice acting for the entire game, but that's a pretty big task.

Lastly, yes. The lighting is a bit random at times. The flashlight doesn't seem bright enough, and you're kind of squinting to see what's going on.

But my entire comment isn't negative. The game itself is very engaging and I've just now stopped playing. I've just hit level 13 and am having a blast. The RPG elements are very well done, and the mapping is spectacular. My MAIN complaint is the inventory system. You get a pretty sizable amount of slots, yet they're randomly scattered about on your player model, causing you to get one main weapon, and a few sidearms, or something similar, with an extreme amount of ammo/grenade storage. It would be so much nicer if you had a singular box to store all of your items, and that was it. Hell, even if you had a weight limit (ala Elder Scrolls) that you had to maintain, that would be great.

For the price, this is one of the best games I've picked up. I salute you in your future endeavors and have my fingers crossed for some patches to fix up my insignificant complaints with the game. Bravo.

Yeah the only Indie game I've ever bought the second I saw it is Amnesia: the dark descent not to long ago. But now E.Y.E is the second... I don't regret it, the games awesome. Doesn't look like a Source game at all which is a big complement, and plays like a different game. RPG elements add to the game and the setting and story are engaging.

Actually the inventory boxes arent randomly scattered, each part represents a part of your body, you can take a pistol in your leg but not a rifle and that makes sense, in coop you can see where the guns are stored.

Go 5 minuets in if you want to see your argument, (e.i "No demo, means go pirate.")
Basically he/they are saying instead of downloading the thing, write to the devs, flod their inbox.
And if you downloaded the game for other reasons; it was apparently good enough that you wanted to play it, despite it's flaws.

Total Biscuit (Totalhalibut) and The Jimquistion (DTOID), on youtube, both made some very good videos, regarding the topic, I can give you links if you want.

I have to agree... Good to know its not just me that are plaqued by the "Capped" internet... I too have this issue, I pay around 50 bux a gig, so if I download a 10 gig game I have to pay 500 bux, then I still have to pay for the game itself which is another 500 - 700 bux, in total I pay over a grand for a single game, which is why I prefer to buy a game off the shelf, pay my 500 bux and I get the legit game data and licence...

If publishers dont distribute via media disks and only do online distribution via steam, well in my case I would rather pay 500 bux to download the pirate version, than pay 1000 bux for the game and download from Steam... Publishers fault, not mine. I Dont like supporting Piracy anymore than anyone else, but the figures speak for themselves. I do check local stores for legit copies on the shelves, but if I cant get it off the shelf, second best option is to download the pirate version.

And yes I do confess to the odd piracy crime here and there, but the real crime is publishers assuming everyone has unlimited internet access, and uses steam. Not every countries internet infrastructure is up to scratch with the rest of the world -sigh-

It is kind of interesting that you think, that only because you are interested in the game, the publisher have to make a physical copy of it available, so that you are willing to buy it. Its a bad situation for you that you have to pay around 500 rand to just download a game, and although i too prefer a physical object over a pure license, i must say that in my opinion paying 500 for a pirated copy is not the right way either. If they do not release the game on a physical object, then get a game which is available at your local stores and support those developers/publishers who made a copy for you to get at your local store.

"It is kind of interesting that you think, that only because you are interested in the game, the publisher have to make a physical copy of it available, so that you are willing to buy it."

Yes I think so... Infact, if I were a publisher and I would want consumers to buy my product, I would make sure I cater for them on their terms, since after all, my sales are dependant on them... otherwise I just end up shooting myself in the foot, because if they want the game, they will get it one way or another, so to fight piracy, you have to make sure there is no reason for them to justify piracy by accomodating for them yes?

There are "other" piracy justifications, for example "sharing", which in every perspective is valid, though at the same time, not fair... Like I buy a game, then that game is my property, I may burn it, smash it, or even loan it to a friend, in that sense, I can upload it to the internet and "share" it with others, as it is my property since I paid for it... Not that I do it, but making an example, and that is probably the most dificult justification to combat, every other reason can be dealt with by the publishers.

So for the most part, Indies are going to suffer piracy bigtime, and unfortunately they cannot afford it, so for them it is rather imperative to accommodate for the public in everyway possible, otherwise they wont be able to get sales.

If you look at it smartly, piracy really just equals zero sales, if I pirate a game, that equals to me not buying the game... So there is no loss for the publisher whichever way, but if the publisher accommodates for me the consumer to buy their product, they could win a sale. So to win my sale, digital distrobution shouldnt be their only form of distrobution. Mount and Blade distributed their game on media discs, and guess what... I baught it

I doubt that it is always feasible for a publisher to offer a game at every medium available. I mean for example E.Y.E. is not a game that many people know of. I think that the cost to get EYE into the local store may have overlapped the income by the additional sales because most of the people would have looked at the game, shrugged their shoulders and then moved on. Those some thousand (at best i think even one thousand copies may be a very optimistical estimation) additional sales would in no way have covered the costs to just bring the game into stores worldwide.

I do agree, that indie developers have it hard but i cannot see how you are getting to your point of view. In my opinion your "solution" would just end in the financial exodus of the indie games (except some one hit wonders like angry birds - seriously why do people even buy that peace of software? its not even an original idea for a game, those kind of games where already there for years, for free) and that wouldnt serve anyone.

For the sharing part. . . i agree that it is not fair, neither for the paying customer nor for the developer/publisher, but i highly doubt that it is legal to share something online by uploading.

I cant even agree with you saying that piracy equals zero sales, there are too many researches on the wide field that state that people who pirated a game (or a movie depends on the focus of the research) have bought pirated games later (maybe not all, i guess that this depends from person to person). But that is to say for people who have at least the slightest intend to buy a game, not for those who blame others for their actions. You are responsible for what you do not a third person, you have the choice. If you choose to pirate a game you are to blame not the publisher or the developer, no matter what excuses you have to offer.

Actually i need to correct you here, when I say piracy equals zero sales, its geared towards my sale not meaning anything. Put it this way, I want a game on disc, its the only way you will get me to pay for your game... Now say I am the minority of your sales, perhaps its just me that wants a hard copy... Fact is your not going to distribute a single hard copy just for me, because its 1 sale, you couldnt care less if I didnt buy the game... So inadvertedly, you dont care if I pirate your game, because you never cared about my sale in the first place. In that aspect, the piracy did equal zero sale inadvertedly, however that same act of piracy equaled 1 sale, but you didnt care, for me to scratch your back, you have to scratch my back... get what I am saying?

For indie games, not always feasable to distribute hard copies, and I would consider purchasing it and downloading it if it were reasonably small in terms of data... basically if the price and size of download will cost me more than a AAA game, its a no go.

and amen to angry birds... seriously whatsup with that?

I think i finally get what you're saying, but saying that i dont care ybout you as a customer / about you pirating a game just because i have to make a financial based choice is a bit harsh (Who wouldn't want to live in a land where games and flatrate flows and all gamers unite under the same hobby, living and gaming peacefully blowing their brains out in the most brutal way a game has to offer?). And i remembered a third option, which was purchasing a hard copy from the developers side which then gets send to you (without all the cartonage and fancy manuals, just a copy made by the developers (burned by them, with a label printed on the disk) and send to you personally (which would still mean, that you had to wait for 1 or 2 weeks? after paying for it until you can play since international post delivery and stuff, plus you would probably need to pay more to cover the transportation fees) - which bring me to the question if you would accept things like 1 to 2 week long waiting time plus higher price for the initial game? (probably at least the last one, since you would probably still pay less than by downloading the 5 gig ~ or maybe not depending if you can cover international package with 50 rand which i kind of doubt - edit: at least where i am living it should be possible with around 34 rand, but i have no idea if the sizes and the weight i chose where in any way representational plus i do not really have thought about the things like additional costs for package material and so on) - well it might be at least worthy to think about it as a hypothetical possibility?

I thought that we are specially talking about non AAA titles since those should naturally be covered by your local store (or do we have here just a different definition of AAA?)

Well good to see that you get my understanding =]

Nah I started a thread for the non AAA issues, for example I want to buy the humble bundle (seriously I do) but I cant, since I dont have a credit card... I mailed the guys at the humble bundle support requesting some assistance in an alternative method of paying but no response yet... But as far as these comments go, its geared towards a few AAA titles that only distribute online... ****** me off =/ As for indies, well indie games in general are small in terms of data and cheap, so overall the purchase and download is affordable for me... Although I might think twice on certain indie games that use UDK etc, the data size itself may be too big to download =(

Im having a really hard time understanding your comment, but the other guy made a really, really, really, really good point and now one of your main arguments is that the the producer of a product is under no obligation to make a product easily available (in other words be considerate and respectful to others)? And that international shipping makes prices just as high anyways? Well you should know that the price of mailing just one game of course will undoubtedly be inefficient for sales, but mailing many copies of a game at a time will save money and net the maker a profit. Its like when you buy one get one half off or buy 20 get 15 half off. Shippers, like any other service/good maker, will lower the price for mass of things because they will still make profits and promote their service consequently, meaning more people will ship with them because they like their customers and take care of them. On a smaller note, the publisher of any videogame has just as much of a responsibility to make their game available to all audiences as a gamer has a responsibility to not pirate a game. Just because the "law" says otherwise doesnt mean that isnt true. People should really stop treating laws as if they were gods. Thats what communism is after all. When people put the laws above themselves, they are really just putting freedom below them. Just to correct, Im not saying that its okay to break the law, what Im saying is there are some things that are above the law. People who watched Law Abiding Citizen will know what Im talking about.
