Post news Report RSS Devblog #42

Since we're terrible with post titles, we decided to switch to this boring numeric format that seems to be the thing these days. So I've checked and that makes this the 42nd blog post. Which is a lot. We should probably hurry up and finish the damn thing already.

A few weeks back I scrapped the old camera code and rewrote it from the ground up. This allowed me to implement some really nice optimizations, such as reusing the framebuffer instead of rerendering the entire scene. Needless to say, it's like infinitely faster now.

In addition to that, I've been working on small stuff such as fixing elusive crashes and subtle bugs. I've also implemented controller support so the game is now fully playable with joysticks I guess (also gamepads).

Oh, and here's what has been happening on the level design side of things.

We'll be posting updates with an increased frequency for the duration of the next month. At least that's the plan. A Christmas special of sorts.

We're actually planning to sell this on Steam. We haven't decided the price yet, but I promise that it won't be too pricey!

Sweet I'm actually a Fan Co-Owner and Moderator of a Deviantart Valve Fan group called the OBFC and we do official and community news including reviewing mods, mods to indie and straight up indie using Source or goldsourcs so depending on the price I'm in.

You should add random quests where you can fix people's plumbing and creaky doors because "Those most overlooked are often the most important."
lol sorry :D

There might actually be something like that somewhere during the game.

You are reusing the framebuffer, but provide a different viewangle on the camera? Or at least it appears so on this screenshot.. how did you manage to do that?

Whoops, sorry for not answering quicker. I wish IndieDB had proper comment notifications.

The camera view uses the exact same framebuffer, but it's just "zoomed in" (by modifying the texture coordinates on the quad) to give the illusion of being from a different position and angle.

Hm cool, I really had the idea that at least the window was displayed from a slightly different perspective! So either it's because the texture is a tiny bit horizontally stretched, or the zoom effect just fooled me :)
And thanks for the reply. You don't get notifications when you get a comment on an article?.. Because as you probably know a reply to a *comment* DOES generate a notification. Weird.
