Post news Report RSS Desura Beta - Linux Update 2

Here is the latest news regarding the Desura Linux beta.

Posted by on

Opps we done goofed!

Last night we pushed a new update to the start script and bootloader, this is one of the most frightful things you can do since it is easy to break leaving the users stranded with a broken build... Which we did, linking the wrong libs on 64 bit platforms which a lot of users have reported this morning and the worst part is that Desura cannot update itself to fix the issue.

We solved the issue however...

A build has just been pushed that should fix the bug and get Desura working again but you will have to manually update Desura by using the force update shortcut in the menu or by running Desura with the -f argument.

Over the next couple of days we are also updating games to use a different method of including the libraries that they need to avoid conflicts with system libraries and allow quicker fixes for missing libraries on some platforms. This might cause some issues with games not working but like always please report bugs and issues on the forums.

Is there anything special that developers need to know about the new method for including libraries?

No, this way the developers upload there build (instead of us monkey patching it) and we can add libraries on the profile (or the devs even can).

Not to mention no more special launch scripts. Basically developers can upload the same thing that is in their .tar.gz releases.

That's awesome. Out of interest, who identifies and/or bundles required libraries, and how do developers indicate which binaries should be called?

Amazing. This will be a great platform to approach once the Dilogus - The Winds of War prototype is ready. Well done. =)

I'm so nervous about that game, it seems so epic in scope I worry over whether the team will be able to complete it. Best of luck to them in any event.

Nice work guys. Now I just gotta fix my linux install (I broke it by upgrading my heavily customized ubuntu D:). I guess it's time to consider switching to Arch or Fedora..

Please please please add the ability to add to the launcher for the game. As to run games properly i need to run "optirun <game>" in terminal for it to work properly (nvidia optimus).

It doesn't work for me anymore. The launcher just "CTD's" when I try to log in.
Using Gentoo i686 here.
When I try to log in, it just quits the process entirely.
